American River is a bit out of the way, and KI Lodge is almost as far as you can go before the road ends!
We had a superior King Bayview room, which had a nice balcony, 2 decent beds and was tastefully decorated.
Its features include tea and coffee making facilities, a fridge, an iron and ironing board, and a room safe.
And thank you to the hotel for the “welcome gift” of a bottle of wine and cookies; very thoughtful!
There is an a la carte restaurant and a bar, which served food. We chose the latter and were quite happy with the selection of meals available.
It has a marked walk in their rear grounds, which we did, and were lucky to see glossy black Cockatoos in the wild.
The reception staff were very friendly and helpful.
Also, it's only 40 mins to the ferry, so very convenient.

This property is in an incredible location, with fantastic views and wildlife (there were lots of kangaroos on the grounds). The food (breakfast and dinner) was delicious, and staff (including the owner) were very personable and helpful. Our room was very comfortable, with a nice balcony and view. We also had a great full-day tour.

Penneshaw was great.
Penneshaw was great. Quiet and close to ferry and food options. When you get off the ferry you think there is not much here but look around the side streets and you find many options. It is only half an hour to Kingscote and to the main tourist loop. We had kangaroos at our door each morning and the view of the water and ferry going up and down was lovely.

Penneshaw has a beautiful safe beach, skate park and playground plus hikes for the more adventurous. There is a small supermarket for anything you may need to be self sufficient. Otherwise there are 2 hotels and 2 cafes, all providing eat-in or take-away food as well as a take-away food shop. We were there in January.

The ocean views from the apartment were amazing. The apartment was well equipped and had everything we needed. It was not far from the ferry terminal. The IGA supermarket is walking distance from the apartments and also was easy to get around the island in our car for gin tasting, wine tasting and a visit to the honey farm.amimoAustralia - 10Scored 10

It was close to the ferry and great local food. Great home base to get to all the sights. The little penguin night tour is excellent. People were wonderful and friendly. Great beach to walk along and swim in close to accomodation. Millpond where we stayed was excellent 5 star property for us we would stay there again and recommend it. Great views from the Millpond. We stayed for 8 nights.

It is a goodvidea to do your research beforehand and plan your trip. We wanted an overall look at the island itself and to eat out occasionally. We achieved our goal in five days some long and some short and with built in rests. Other people may want to participate in activities and there seem to be plenty of options. Although it is an island highlights are spaced so be prepared fir lots of driving whatever your choices. And look out for the native animals

We have had a great time here and seen a lot of kangaroos and wallabies around the house. The view is breathtaking and the sound of the birds in the morning is mesmerising. The night sky is awesome, but it was cloudy for most days.MaheshAustralia

It is located close to a beautiful beach, close to the meeting place for our planned excursions and within walking distance to cafes and restaurants. We had an allocated carport space to park our rental car and we enjoyed many walks on the beach that had breath-taking views. It is also located close to where the ferry travels to and from Adelaide. Millpond is walking distance to some sites like the Penneshaw Sculpture Trail and the Contemplation Seat just to name a few. Millpond is approximately 2hr drive to Flinders Chase National park, about 1hr to Little Sahara Adventrure Centre and about 30mins to Cape Willoughby Lighthouse.
