The host is realy friendly and welcoming. He also works in the local tourism and thus knows great places to visit apart from the gorilla trekking. Our car broke down the morning we wanted to leave and he was a great help with getting the right mechanics.

The staff are AMAZING! So friendly - above and beyond. The room is simple and clean, the beds were comfortable. I felt safe. The location is really central if you like to explore the bustling town. We walked to 2 excellent restaurants within 5 minutes. They accommodated us with an early breakfast when we were trekking and a packed lunch for purchase. Amazing samosas. We drove to Ruhondo from Kigali for a weekend in mid-May. We took a wrong turn on the way, and our hosts at the retreat were so helpful directing us in. That level of superb hospitality continued throughout our entire visit. It’s a short boat ride to the island, but the retreat feels like a faraway paradise. You are immersed in the natural beauty of the island, surrounded by lush vegetation and peaceful blue waters. We loved exploring the island and taking a boat tour of the lake. I received an excellent massage in a lovely outdoor setting by the water. My favorite activity was relaxing on the terrace, snacking on warm peanuts and enjoying magnificent views of volcanic peaks in the distance. This is the perfect place to take morning coffee, read a book, or chat with other guests and our lovely hosts. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and our cabin was clean and comfortable. We slept deeply at night. Our only regret was not staying a few extra dayss!
