If you wish to immerse yourself in a true Japanese experience then this is the hotel for you. Everyone walks around in their Japanese pjs, no shoes allowed inside and the onsen is wonderful - especially the private one. Staff are very friendly and helpful. There are also icecreams, beef skewers and ramen as treats! We loved our experience

The owner and the female staff is very welcoming and friendly. Owner took initiative in helping out, eg. offering extra towel, blanket, making guest green tea when he/she is staying at common room area, helping guest figuring out bus arrangements, turning up room temperature when guest is back to the guesthouse, offering a ride to Shirakawago village when it is raining. Owner can communicate English well. I also have a great time talking with the Japanese female staff (our conversation is combine of basic English and Japanese, it was fun). Location is nice too considering it is about 5 min walk to Hatogaya bus stop and 15-20min walk to Shirakawago village. Wifi is good too. One of the things I like is that there's a female toilet and a male toilet (gender-separated). Clean everywhere. Room (bunk bed) is good size and bed is comfortable. Comfortable common room area. I enjoyed my stay there very much.

- The property is new, clean and comfy. - The room and bed are quite big with some space for big luggages (although 2 pax in). - Also like about power outlets which are quite a few more than typical hotel/ resort in Japan. There are USB and USB-C ports as well as normal outlets. - PJ provided 😍 - The welcome matcha cream crackers were very nice.

The room was beautiful and comfortable, bathroom was perfectly clean and well equipped, the location was ideal and the best part were the hosts: they were extremely kind and friendly, they definitely made the whole stay a tremendous pleasure. They were kind enough to take me to the bus station and also delivered some objects I left behind to me by mail. They were gentle and respectful, and I'm very grateful for their treatment and attention. Lovely experience. Hirasawa was a very nice host and tried to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The house was comfortable and extremely clean, and the traditional breakfast was delicious! Please note: We would highly recommend having a car if you visit it. Access by bus is very limited (only runs twice a day), taxis from Takayama are difficult to find and very expensive and unless you have a car, there is little you can do/see.

At Akaokan, guests can relax in the spacious public hot-spring baths and visit the Historic Villages of Shirakawa-gō and Gokayama, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, situated a 20-minute drive away.

Love the place and the huge dinner and breakfast! It was a veritable feast. The futon beds were very comfortable too. We enjoyed the onsen very much. In addition, we had our own private toilet and bathroom. Would highly recommend this place.

Me and my girlfriend went to do the White Road. We were VERY happy with this hotel. The staff was so so nice, and the food was excellent! We were treated like royalty. And the bath hot spring is to die for. Plus free yukatas to wear! Very happy

Good quality with a spacious common area and a well equipped kitchen. The host was friendly, welcoming, and clearly cared about his guesthouse to a high standard. We felt right at home and he cleared the snow from our car windows too which was very thoughtful.
