Consider that if you book through agencies before arriving in Wamena, you get the same guides but at extortionate prices (maybe it's unavoidable if you visit during the festival...). Overall, if you are here for trekking , I suggest you stay at the hotel, despite the negatives below. Wamena is not a luxury retreat, so I doubt other places will be that better and bug free (you are in the middle of the jungle after all)
