The host Michiyo was the absolute sweetest and kindest lady. She brought my kids to her garden to pick fresh veges and was so warm. The place was beautiful, and made the experience immersive.

We had a fantastic trip to the Kiso Valley and to Sakanomichi. The hosts, Ken and Yuki, were absolutely lovely and made us feel so welcome and comfortable! You very much felt like a cherished guest in their home. Such a lovely couple! Having now done the hike between Magome and Tsumago I would definitely recommend staying in Magome (which seemed to be the less popular choice when I was researching.) Tsumago was so charming but seemed much much sleepier - Magome is already very quiet and quaint with lots of charm. Restos/ cafes and shops in Tsumago seemed to close early or if they had sold out leaving you less options in the way of food or snacks. Not a deal breaker but just something to consider. Not sure if this was to do with the time of year - we were there in early March - but Magome was hardly bustling in comparison. Sakanomichi was lovely, beautifully finished with comfortable amenities, gloriously warm showers after a cold days hike! Ken and Yuki thank you for everything! Also, definitely pop to Hill Billy Coffee in Magome if you have time, its well worth the stop in! Delicious coffee!

A place you can go without any hesitation. Even though the facilities are shared, everything was spotless so it didn’t even feel like you were sharing. The guesthouse is modern and the futons are very comfortable. If every hostel was like this, we would have became backpackers again! the host is very friendly and ready to help you for anything. the location is perfect, in a centre of town and the rooms at the back have an amazing view over the mountains.

This is a beautiful home in an amazing location. It really exceeded our expectations in every way. The level of detail put into the construction of the building is a work of art. We feel very lucky to have stayed at bochi-bochi. The host went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and we are very grateful. 🍍🚲 We look forward to staying at bochi-bochi again in the future.
