We had a lovely time staying in this traditional Japanese style apartment. It is tidy and spacious, has lots of details hidden around the corners. The host was very friendly, responsive and helpful, provided detailed suggestions about placed worth visiting in Takeo and even guided us to see fireflies at night. The day we checkout out of the apartment we forgot backpack on the bus, the host was kind enough to contact the bus company for us right away. This is by far the most pleasant stay we ever had in any country.

I was hesitant to book this resort initially as there was only 1 recent review when I booked, and the older reviews of the original hotel were not that good. However, I decided to take a chance and I'm so glad I did!!! The resort is newly renovated and all the furnishings and decor are all very clean and new. The resort location was ideal as I wanted to be located near Mifuneyama Rakuen so I could go see the Autumn colours at night (only 6 min drive away). The facilities on the resort were fantastic.... the spa pool required swimsuits which the resort thoughtfully prepared for each guest, all packed in individual tote bags. The hot spring pool was a a bit small, but the resort was not packed when we stayed, so there were no other people around when we used the spa pool or hot spring. But what impressed me the most has to be the amazing service we received. Most of the staff did not speak English or could only speak minimal English, but they always tried their best to understand our needs, and made us feel so comfortable. The staff's dedication and service quality are top-notch. The food was so amazing as well (The sukiyaki dinner and Japanese breakfast included in the stay were so good!)

I couldn't find a hotel room for the night, and feel blessed and lucky to have found Kyotoya. It is set in a great area close to the station, Takeo Onsen and not far from all the sights. On entering you will find a beautiful lobby full of antique furniture and a great area to have tea and coffee and enjoy the atmosphere. The traditional tatami room was wonderful, the futon and pillow comfortable, and of course there is the onsen on the second floor to relax and refresh yourself on your travels. I loved the place and would absolutely book again. The staff were helpful and friendly and very patient with my poor level of Japanese. Don't hesitate to stay here if your looking for a much more special experience than your regular hotels within the same price range.

The hot spring water was the best among the Ryokan trips. Full independence was guaranteed, and it was even questionable how the forest lounge could be managed like this. It was the best ryokan ever.

Everything is superb by this host. The environment is clean and beautiful, also with a scent of historical building. The bundled dinner (Kaiseki) and breakfast were wonderful and delicious. All the services provided were outstanding and made us feel so much like home.

The full Ryokan/Onsen experience. Extensive facilities, like a bedrock bath that you don't find everywhere. The food was exceptional as expected, the chef was extremely nice and made us feel welcome. I would recommend to speak a little bit of Japanese to go here though.
