Our stay at Casa Az-Zagal Hotel was absolutely wonderful. The hotel itself is like a step back in time, with each room styled uniquely to reflect the charm of a traditional Portuguese home. It’s full of character but still manages to be incredibly comfortable and inviting. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted by Gonçalo, the General Manager. He showed us around and shared the hotel’s history, which added so much depth to our stay. He was friendly, approachable, and clearly passionate about the place, which really set the tone for the entire experience. The hotel’s atmosphere is incredibly peaceful, and the pool area, though small, is beautifully designed - a perfect spot to relax and take in the serene surroundings. But let’s talk about the food - because it was the absolute highlight of our stay. Trust me, as someone who’s a serious foodie and has eaten at countless restaurants, this is not a compliment I give lightly: it was the best food I’ve ever had. The head chef is not just talented but also incredibly warm and passionate. Each dish was a masterpiece, rooted in traditional Portuguese flavors, and the chef took the time to explain the story behind each one. We even had a great chat and discovered he’s a Manchester fan (great taste!) Every bite was an experience, and the meals are something we’ll be dreaming about for years to come. Casa Az-Zagal is a truly special place. From the welcoming staff to the peaceful setting and the unforgettable food, it’s a stay we’ll always remember. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels both authentic and luxurious, this is it - you won’t regret it!

I was crying this morning when we left. it is the most beautiful and peaceful place. everything is made respecting nature, animals, the environment. Valter, the owner is just a wonderful man. kind, helpful, explaining his project, reserving restaurants, having time to chat and show you his happy animals. the room was wonderful, not a sound at night, beautiful toiletries, a pool to die for.. and the breakfast is all homemade, with the eggs from the farm, and wonderful Margarida preparing it with love. we will be back, it was too short!!! obrigada Valter! um abraço enorme! The proprietor was wonderful. The common outside areas were very beautiful. The common inside area was a museum—-super interesting. The restaurant was very, very good! Fantastic! The rooms are just OK—clean and comfortable but little charm. Would definitely stay here again. Happily accomodated our bicycles in a secure room. Overall—super, just super!

It was a little way out of Estremoz and Google maps couldn't find the address but I messaged the host in advance and she provided exact GPS coordinates which worked perfectly. Super quiet, well equipped and the back patio was beautiful. Everything worked and the Wifi was good. Host was very responsive.
