As such, restaurants are very reasonably priced as they are not tourist traps. Above all, the couple that runs the apartment, Sandra and Ricardo, are so caring and attentive to any need or question you might have. They are wonderful, charming hosts! I would definitely return.

Tugged away from the rest of the world, Ja opened a room of her ancestor's home to guests who would like to experience what it's like to live in Cape Verdian raw country side - which includes being offline, taking cold showers with a bucket and a mug, sleeping in pin drop silence (apart from the roosters), walking in the steep hills, etc. One can go with a shared taxi until the roundabout of Sao Domingos. From there, a local can come and pick you up for 300 ESC, or you can walk (it's absolutely safe, the locals are friendly and helpful, location on the map is accurate). They can also drop you to the airport for 1500 ESC, and it just takes 30mins to reach. Ja knows how to cook for vegetarians, too. She is a witty and interesting host to talk to. I am still amazed at the purity and simplicity of this place, and hope to be back one day.

People from Santiago are very warm and welcome people; this is all over Santiago. Yolanda cooks very nice meals at her restaurant. You won't be disappointed.
