Yudanaka Onsen, Yamanouchi
A 5-minute walk from Yudanaka Train Station, Tawaraya offers Japanese-style accommodations with free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen TV. Guests can relax in the indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths and wear colorful Japanese Yukata robes. Massages can be requested for an extra cost. The service as this Ryokan was 10/10, and was the most authentic one we stayed in during our 4 weeks in Japan. The staff were so lovely, and spoke great English. They showed us to our room, and gave us essentially a "room tour" whilst we drank complimentary tea. They gave us a map with nearby restaurants and ammenties noted on it. The private outdoor onsen was SO nice! You book a slot upon arrival, which you can access in the evening with 30 min slots. The onsen was large and the perfect contrast with the fresh cool air in the evening. Yukatas were provided for us as an option to wear around the hotel - both my partner and I are bigger than the average Japanese person (Wife is plus size, I am 6ft 2) and we both comfortably fit into the ones picked out for us. The only thing that threw us was that during breakfast, they cleared the beds from our room - had we known people would go in, we'd probably have neatened the room a bit haha! P.S don't skip the sushi restaurant a few doors down from the hotel. The sushi was EXQUISITE and they even have a phonetic Japanese to English page at the front so you can have a go at ordering properly with the chef.

Everything! The ambience, the facilities, the hostesses, the onsen and the entire village. A truly amazing experience to visit❤️
Authentic village close to the snow monkeys park. You can use a private onsen for free.
Shibu onsen is amaizing, beautiful and quiet at night, and Nozaru ryokan is right in the heart of onsen village. I really liked how this run-down building look, and I was happy to have spacious room with kotatsu and nice rotemburo for a price of a hostel. Girl on the reception was nice, too.
Loved this traditional Japanese Villa, the onsen was awesome and food was great.
Great service and availability for any request I had. The several onsens are what make really the difference, as you can enjoy them privately (they are shared, but used privately), without the need to go to the public ones. Great kaiseki dinner, I stayed 2 nights and they served different menus both days. The ryokan is located in the center of the village, with all public onsens and other services easily reachable within few mins by walk.
The staff at Villa Alpen are exceptional and go out of their way to accommodate your every need. We thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the family that owns the hotel and can understand why families return every year.
Loved being able to access the nine public onsens and walking the quaint village. The staff was amazing! Loved breakfast!
The location is perfect, in the center of the village. The staff spoke very good english and was very kindful and helped us. The resteraunt of the hotel is very good, we also ate there at night. It's very nice that they have a key that open all the public onsens in the village.
The local house was everything I expected, and was a great stay. The hosts were wonderful, picked me up from the station and took me to the snow monkey park-the reason for my stay. The village was small and sleepy but perfect for me.
Very friendly owner who told us a lot about the history of the village. He drove us to the monkey park. The room was nice and the onsen pleasant. Great place to stay.
