Our hosts were amazing. They met us at the train station and catered for our every need. In particular one of our group had an accident and needed medical attention. They called the ambulance and accompanied her to hospital, followed by her husband and the rest of the party in the car. We had food in the restaurant on the first night, also highly recommended. Faultless in a word, they couldn’t have done more

Akiki was so helpful picking us up from our touring and taking us to 7-11 for dinner makings. She sent us of in the morning with a delicious egg salad sandwich and fruit and drive us to the station. Spacious bedroom with table and chairs and comfy bed. Felt more like being at home rather than a hotel. We also did a load of wash. She lives in a quiet neighborhood with mountain views from our room.

Very friendly host and welcome. Property is also very welcoming and warm with small beautiful details and works of art about surrounding nature and stargazing. Only had a short stay, however we would definitely go back in the future.

We had an amazing stay at BYAKU. The room was amazing and clean, the staff were friendly and accommodating to our English speaking. The dining experience, in particular, was incredible and was a highlight of our time in Japan. BYAKU made us feel very special during our stay (it was our honeymoon) and I really couldn’t recommend them enough!

Hostess is just the most beautiful lady, so very helpful. Extra bonus of breakfast provided. Right on the Nakasendo trail in the little down of Narai. Lovely Quiet spot.

The best stay we had in Japan. Right on the historical street. The inside is luxurious, refurbished and clean, but in a very tasteful Japanese style. The host was very kind and forthcoming. You do have to plan ahead because most shops and restaurants in the village close around 4 pm, but then it feels all the more special to walk the empty street.

Situated in Ōtaki in the Nagano region, Kurumisawa Ryokan features accommodation with access to a public bath. The property has mountain views. The ryokan has a flat-screen TV.

Hisano and her husband were excellent hosts - we felt very well looked after and they did everything possible to make us feel very welcome. The food was exceptional and Hisano took the time to explain to us the local and seasonal ingredients used. We also had a lovely day hiking some of the Ontake Kodo trail nearby, and enjoyed using the onsen afterwards. We could not recommend this ryokan more.

Terrible . No air conditioning. A tiny room with just enough room for 4 Japanese style beds next to each other. My feet even touched the table. I knew Japan was usually cramped, but I couldn't imagine it could be this small. This was my mistake. Never coming back to this area!
