The drive to Martim Branco is scenic and hilly, you really get the feeling of being off the beaten track. As you drive into the village, it’s like taking a step back in time – a true rural experience. The village is very secluded and isolated and there are a series of walks in and around the accommodation with a river running through the base of the village. Xisto also provides a very unexpected and wonderful swimming pool!! It was hard to believe this facility had been created in the surrounds when you first arrive. We made a call and in no time, we were being shown into our unit. From the outside, you would never expect such an interior – it provided all the comforts you could ever need, very well executed and considerate of the environment it was in. There is no taverna in the village but Gustavo provides a shared area by his wood fired bread oven where you can light a fire and cook outside. We had a kitchen as well, sadly, we hadn’t stopped en-route to purchase some food for supper!! We’d certainly recommend making sure you bring something to eat with you. We did have some wine and snacks, so surviving until Gustavo’s breakfast was never going to be a big challenge. Gustavo was such a wonderful host at breakfast. We get the impression he is very well accomplished in and around the kitchen – we were offered home made bread, jams and preserves. It also appears Gustavo tries to keep it local and fresh which we loved. We were sad, we only had the 1 x night and too many other spots to get to during our trip. It would be nice to arrive with more provisions, take some of the forest walks and become more in touch with the serenity on offer.

The Hotel was lovely and the views were beautiful. The Managers, Isabella and Lucus were very friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for you. We will definitely visit again. I suppose the only thing I would change is maybe to have tea/coffee facilities in the room, but I don't think that this is a thing in Europe so no problem with this.

The owners are absolutely amazing - very warm, friendly , helpful. They def take very good care of the property and the guests - thanks a million ! Absolutely loved my stay! This apartment is truly a gem. Everything is brand new and beautifully designed. The modern kitchen is a dream to work in if you need to cook a meal and the bedroom is equally stunning with its modern aesthetic. The private bedroom with the comfortable bed and excellent wardrobe was a dream, and the separate bathroom and toilet were a lifesaver! The open plan second bedroom/ living area is a brilliant addition if your a family with 2 children or a couple sharing the apartment with guests and need privacy. The second bed space is wonderfully versatile, easily accommodating one person, or two people by extending the single bed (cascade effect - two single beds). The separate bathroom and toilet are a really thoughtful touch as well as convenient when sharing with others. The shower was excellent, and all fixtures were top-notch! Beyond the beautiful space itself, the host was exceptional. From day one, communication was prompt and helpful, and Carla was clearly dedicated to ensuring a smooth and enjoyable stay. I truly felt blessed to be staying in such a brand new and thoughtfully created apartment. I felt right at home in this brand new and well-equipped apartment and highly recommend if your looking for a stylish and convenient base.

We had a wonderful stay, nestled in peaceful surroundings, ideal for nature and animals lovers, the perfect escape. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped, with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. Helena is lovely and very friendly. The location is only 7 min drive from Castelo Branco. I’ll definitely return!

Shutters where very good at making the room dark and quiet. Also the host WhatsApped me with all the info to get into the property as I would be arriving late, that was really helpful.
