I would return to this place any time and will definitely recommend it to friends...

I just stayed one night, everything was perfect, close to the station, the staff was super kind and they helped me with the Takkyubin service to send my luggage to the next hotel. Ryokan Asunaro: A Traditional Japanese Inn in Takayama. Nestled just a 6-minute walk from Takayama Station and the Nohi Bus Center, Ryokan Asunaro offers an authentic Japanese inn experience. We went as a group and we loved the ryokan. It was very spacious, everything was very clean, and it was conveniently located near the bus station, the train station, and the city center where most of the shopping takes place. The rooms were the most spacious we stayed in throughout Japan, and the staff were all very kind. I would definitely stay here again.

The Sakanomichi is a gem. My daughter and I stayed here for 3 nights in February. Ken san and Yuki san were delightful. The property was very clean and comfortable. They renovated the inn themselves and you can see care and attention in every detail from materials used to decor. The food was delicious and much of it was grown (rice) or made (plum wine) by Ken or Yuki. They provided great recommendations for restaurants and side trips. They ensured we were prepared with all the details required to ensure we had successful adventures. We are so lucky to have we picked the Sakonomichi. It was sugoi!!!

We arrived after our chilly hike along the trail to a very warm and inviting traditional home. It was stocked with tea, coffee and drinks in the fridge, as well as some snacks. There were so many different areas to sit and relax in the home, we felt soo welcome and at home we did not want to leave. This was a stark contrast to our Air bnb we had in Kyoto where we felt we could not relax or enjoy the property. The sleepy town was fun to explore, the cafe next door was also very warm and welcoming filled with music and warmth. And the beds!! Being 6 months pregnant I was a little worried about the traditional futons on the floor but it was the best sleep I has the whole 3 weeks in Japan. I also appreciated the number of chairs for me to sit in. Overall a very enjoyable and relaxing stay, we wish we could have stayed longer.
