Kenepuru Sounds
Featuring garden views, Hopewell Lodge in Kenepuru Sounds features accommodation, a garden, a private beach area, a shared lounge, a terrace and barbecue facilities. The lodge features both WiFi and private parking free of charge. The property is very well kept. There were lots of toys and activities to enjoy. The vegetation on property was beautiful. The view from my room was beautiful. Such a relaxing environment. The common kitchen has all the cooking tools you'd need and is super clean. There are great books to exchange. Minimal bugs.

Upon hearing about the prospect of staying at Lochmara Lodge upon arrival at Picton from North Island, we jumped at the opportunity. Definitely no regrets, as although the lodge is not high end, everything else makes up for it. This was one of our top highlight stays across 5 weeks in New Zealand!
We felt so welcomed by staff, before and during our stay! Prior to booking, all questions, including transport via water taxi, were quickly and diligently answered. Upon arrival at the water taxi, we were warmly greeted and helped by staff to ensure a swift check-in ahead of schedule, and the same was experienced upon arrival.
The place is set deep in the Marlborough Sounds, and it offered the most amazing scenery and nature all around. It was breathtaking, especially as the sun set and first thing in the morning. The fact that it cannot be reached by car made it extra special and unique.
We had two rooms, one water facing and one facing the back-end (this room was perhaps a bit sad). The room was small, quite simple but we did not spend much time inside, as there was so much else to do!
We loved the chill and vibe of the place, and the level of activities available to us during our stay. We did hiking, the feeding time activities with the pigs, goats, birds etc on site (we loved the insight provided with all), kayaking, paddle boarding, the games and general relaxation. We also visited the underwater observatory - which was super interesting - and great interaction and insight into the creatures of the New Zealand waters.
The restaurant offered an all-day service, including breakfast and dinner for us overnight house guests. The staff was always friendly and welcoming, and the food and drinks were of a high quality.
I think we could have easily done a third night at this place, and it provided such a great introduction to what more to come during our time on the South Island.

The location was idea Clean modern cabin Well equipped kitchen
The location and cleaness of the cabin. Bedding smelt really nice.
Location for proximity, although there was no view as pictured on booking.com Reception were helpful in arranging shuttle on our departure
The room was absolutely spotless, the highest standard of cleanliness, modern, comfortable, the best! It will now be our go-to place in Picton! The host George was friendly, down to earth, ready to do anything to help. There is even a shuttle service to your arrival point. They really do go a live and beyond in every way!
Cabin was amazing
I stayed in the Hunter's Hut and even though it's one of the smallest cabins, it's awesome! It has everything you need and the bed is big. The outdoor covered space is big enough to have your motorcycle or bike under cover which is nice if the weather goes bad.
Manager Graham went above expectations to assist with comfort and shuttle service
Quirky scenery around the park made from recycled materials. Awesome! Different styled rooms/cabins/huts, not all the same. Something different to look at. Clean, comfortable, quiet. A single toilet close by so didn't have to go to main block in the middle of the night. Well lit for night but not bright, no torch needed. A kids park and a pool. May not suit tho if you don't have a car. We did and would stay again 🙂 Definitely enjoyed our stay 👍
