To visit the attractions in the area.
To visit the attractions in the area. On the way into the town call in to the Information Centre first. The staff are very helpful and will provide you with maps and flyers of the attractions to visit. There is a shop there to purchase souvenirs. The hotel has a large variety of meals and drinks. The town as a large IGA supermarket, petrol station, a post office and shops to purchase opal and other souvenirs.

Let's face it Lightning Ridge is not very scenic but people visit mainly for the mining aspect of things including the opal mines. And they are very interesting and there is plenty to learn about. And bevor I forget to mention it : Their IGA Supermarket is 5 Star rated in my eyes.

Allow at least 5 days to comfortably do most of the sights. Do not miss the car door trips, especially the sunset. This was beyond brilliant and John Murray Gallery. Wow wow wow. It will be my first stop on our next visit.

Lightning Ridge is a great place, the lifestyle and outback way of life is infectious and hard to leave. We visited with our three children (6, 8, and 9) and there was a lot to keep them entertained, including the water park, tourist bus tours, noodling, meals at the bowling club, opal shops, the chambers of the black hands, the artesian bore baths - the list goes on!
