Located on the banks of the Fulda River in Germany’s Hessen region, Kassel was re-built after World War II where most of the city’s architectural history was destroyed. Although alot was destroyed, Kassel still features many prominent landmarks such as Königsplatz Kassel, which is a public square, the astronomy and physical cabinet of Orangerie and the splendid Town Hall Kassel.
Separating the city from the surrounding Hawk Forest is the stunning Wilhelmshöhe Palace and its adjoining Wilhelmshoehe Bergpark which features picturesque gardens, museums and the Ball House at the Wilhelmshoehe Palace.
Kassel has a variety of dining and entertainment options from the traditional Brauhaus to local and international restaurants, to appealing bars and cafés in the vicinity of Königsplatz Kassel.
The must-see museums of the city are the 18th-century Kunsthalle Fridericianum, the oldest public museum in Europe, and the famous fairy-tale Museum Brothers Grimm, who once called Kassel home.

It was easy to get around and see all the sights I wanted to see. Nice shopping area vehicle free with just trams running through it. Some nice old buildings. Attractive smaller city.
Attractive smaller city. It's almost unknown in Britain, but it has a five-year modern art festival called Documenta, which we had never heard of, lots of other attractions and green spaces - the Bergpark is a 'must' - and the people seem friendly. The Weihnachsmarkt had a very nice atmosphere with good food and drinks. The city center has all the usual shops. Grimmwelt is a very extensive museum with a nice (but expensive) restaurant. The annoying thing about Kassel is that they close a lot of things during certain periods of time. This is the second time we went and the planetarium was closed on both occasions (March and December). The Marmorbad was also closed. In March a few of the museums were closed. If you want to go for a swim we recommend the Auebad. Mind, though, that the slides close in the evening (Kassel tradition, I guess?).Guest review byDieuwertjeNetherlands - 10

On arrival I ventured out and less than 5 minutes walk away I found a lovely café called Cafe-Restaurant De Fermo which I highly recommend if you are just looking for a light bite and a beer after a long day travelling.
