Like every other big city it has good and less good parts.
Like every other big city it has good and less good parts. But the best parts are the Rhine and the Altstadt. Also really nice museums and a lot of interesting buildings. The atmosphere is very pleasant and I felt like home. Almost every street has something to show to you. If you want to thoroughly visit it and actually see everything you have to stay at least 5 days (maybe even 7). We were lucky to be there during the wine festival in the Stadtpark and it was great. There are so many restaurants, all great. Wonderful architecture, realistically lots of hidden gems take a little time and walk around you will be surprised and delighted. From H2 hotel nice food easy and doesn't break the bank, Krocodil restaurant Mainz an absolute delight simply the best schnitzel ,baked potatoes and salad and of course the staff are super friendly professional and they all speak English. The hotel is a bit outside of the center and we used a bus to get to the center, which was fine, but very expensive! We paid more than EUR 14,50 for a return ticket for 2 people.
