Lovely place, well worth a visit. Traffic regime in town a bit chaotic due to 'green' local policies, but sufficient parking for those who can find it. Mind the traffic calming measures/cycling lanes. Beautiful gothic Church of St. Elisabeth, historic town centre with old university buildings, lovely restaurants and some very nice shops. Gorgeous views from the well-preserved castle but hills quite steep with many steps. Lots of students with active night-life during term time. It is a historic university town, overlooked by a 13th century castle. Hilly but full of architectural gems from a 13th century church to a 16th century Town Hall and countless half-timbered 16/17th houses in the Old Town, having escaped any serious damage during WW2. It was so easy to stroll through Marburg and access anything from the botanic gardens to shops and riverside cafes. The shops are interesting and not of the chain store variety which added to the charm. The architecture is amazing . The business people of this city were helpful and friendly. We visited Marburg every day of our stay. There is every style of restaurants serving all types of food. There is a beautiful castle to walk around the exterior and the views are outstanding. Such a quaint beautiful idyllic German town. In the mountains. A university town. The Oberstadt, up the mountain, is a world unto its own. Recommend as getaway.
