Remscheid is a small provincial town with a long industrial history, that it shared with the neighbouring town of Solingen - these were once rivals to Sheffield (in the UK) for steel, blades, cutlery and so on, and still produces high quality products of this kind. I've booked this hotel for 5 nights initially . Because of some unexcpected circumstances I had to leave one day before and asked reception not to charge last day . The answer was NO with explanation "that was the tariff " what was not truth cause I've booked a "pay at hotel " meaning not a cheaper tariff . Room cleaning was very bad . For my 4 nights stay in total , maid never washed up cups for tea/coffee and never refil coffee as well . Breakfast was very poor and uniform ( no crambled eggs ) . We drove with GPS and passed the entrance because the signage was quite modest, but we managed to turn around and get into the hotel. No one from the staff was helpful with our luggage before we had checked in. We are old and therefore wished for a low floor room if there was no lift. We were placed on the 2nd floor without a lift. The room was large and nice in Jugendstil, which was reflected in the entire hotel. The restaurant had an "event" where you could help yourself to food in various places, including the kitchen. We received very good help from the young receptionist who served us a bit of everything from the large selection. As we are 86 and 84, it suited us perfectly. The food was of high quality and we enjoyed ourselves. After a good night, we were served a delicious breakfast before the trip continued.Guest review byKnutSpain

Rooms, hallways, lobby and dining area are clean. Parking is for free, with limited parking in front of the door (approximately 10 cars) and plenty of space behind and next to the hotel (less then 1 minute walk). The locations is ideal for people who travel by car, it is around 2 minutes from the highway. Breakfast was good (everything seemed fresh). We ate so much we didn't have to eat for almost the rest of the day, which saved us a lot of time. Some people might think the hotel looks dated but I loved the charming 80s(?) vibe.
