FAQs about hotels in Cuenca

Castilla La Mancha's Hidden Gem

The fortressed town of Cuenca is a hidden gem in the province of Castilla La Mancha and is a popular destination for tourists visiting Madrid or Valencia.

Cuenca is best represented in its medieval old town as well as the unique Hanging Houses (Las Casas Colgadas) which stand aloft on one of the deep canyons surrounding the city, and show a prime example of the common housing of 15th-century Cuenca.

Upon visiting the Old Town you will be welcomed by the remains of an ancient Arab fortress, El Castillo along with the chiming bells of Mangana Tower.

There is a variety of art galleries and restaurants which are situated in the newer side of town, whilst popular places to see are the Cuenca Cathedral, Museum of Spanish Abstract Art and the Archaeological Museum.

Booking.com offers a wide range of accommodation options near landmarks such as Cuenca train station and Parque de San Julián.

We liked the size of the place.

We liked the size of the place. It was just right for us to look around in the time we had. We loved the old charm and the amazing buildings. The cathedral lit up in the evening sunshine and we sat in a beautiful courtyard looking out over wonderful views. The hanging houses were a sight to behold even though I had to walk out onto a scary bridge to get a photograph!

I loved the spectacular views from our apartment and the historic beauty and character of our ‘Rascacielos’ property - a very modern and delightful interior in a XV century building - it felt very special! The Plaza Mayor with the lovely cathedral and the Castle area are beautiful spots to eat and relax. The Casas Colgadas are such a unique feature of Cuenca - unfortunately closed on Mondays, so couldn’t visit. Its surrounding geographical features like Ciudad Encantada & Alcalà del Júcar are unique and wonderful locations and the highlight of my short trip.

Beautiful old town with a very impressive Cathedral.

Beautiful old town with a very impressive Cathedral. The hanging houses are amazing to see and the town just oozes with culture and history. Really worth a visit. We did two night and was sufficient. Lots of up hill walking but there is a site seeing "tram like bus" for those who cant make the hills.

Cuenca is a lovely city as is the surrounding countryside, visit the old Town, marvel at the hanging houses, enjoy the historic old Town but don't miss out on beautiful places like the Enchanted city & the waterfalls @ Rio Cuervo. Both within an easy & very scenic drive from Cuenca itself. Also highly recommend the 7km walk along the river in the city, stunning. We are both mid 70's but very much enjoy walking/hiking so for us this was an ideal short break.

The old town is the most beautiful part of Cuenca, and there...

The old town is the most beautiful part of Cuenca, and there is a good bus service into the new town, which has the big shops and the railway and bus stations. The old town is located on a narrow piece of rising land between two very steep river gorges. It is consequently full of small narrow lanes, passages, staircases, houses sitting almost on top of each other, charming little squares with churches, and magnificent views. Pavement cafes and gift shops abound, and add to the atmosphere. We were there in February, and there were already quite a lot of tourists. So February could be a better time than the main tourist season. This is perhaps especially true for visitors who want to make an excursion into the nearby national park, to the Ciudad Encantada or the.waterfalls at the source of the river Cuervo - the traffic when we went was light.

Cuenca is a marvellous city & the people are extremely friendly & helpful! The Christmas decorations were first class. The town was also entertaining with the parade of Giants & Bigheads representing the Spanish & Moorish King & Queen having an encounter & doing a little dance! The Bigheads are people wearing enormous heads on their shoulders & realising dances as well. Lots of bars for drinks & socializing but many were very full in the evenings making it difficult to be severed or to hold conversations. Food excellent! Traditional food or more actual food all catered for. The tables & chairs (terraces) were very often full during the midday warmth. The Main/High Street (Carreteria) had lots of stalls selling all kinds of things. Lots of first class shops.

Location next to the river and the casa colgada and the bridge is perfect. Very quiet at night and going for a walk at night along the river is recommended. Nicely equipped kitchen and radiator for the warmth are the best parts. I asked for taxi pickup from the train station, and it was convenient. The office has lockers for luggage, and the staff in the office are very helpful. Perfect for Cuenca trip!

An honest rustic hotel full of character - if a little quirky - well, its 15th Century!! Car parking close by but would use free car park which is a little further away. Fabulous views of the gorge and Parador opposite.
