Ajaccio is a lovely small town with lots to see and do, considering its size, and especially if you can move in the surrounding areas as well. Corsica is a really beautiful island. I recommend renting a car and driving around - there are some really exciting routes you can take with endless amazing scenery. Try the road from Piana to Porto if you can. The traffic and the motorbikes were the main problem . We chose the south of the island as we knew it was difficult to get about . Our hotel was only 4.5 kilometres to the town but what a nightmare getting there . I took 45 Mins and then nowhere to park , We have both ridden bikes when we were young but we were horrified by the constant weaving in and out of traffic at speed . Lots and Lots of bikes . I can understand why because it is gridlock most of the time . Our Friends had booked a hotel in the middle of Ajaccio having flown in and after three day hired a car from the airport and explored south of the island . They walked every where in the town and took the tourist bus which would have done if we could have got to it . The city is much more lively than Bastia with a nice art museum a historical museum and several beautiful beaches not far (3 miles) from the city center. Unfortunately, I booked an all day boat trip to Bonifacio which was cancelled due to rough seas. I recommend starting your acquaintance with the market, then visiting the cathedral. After getting to know the cathedral, visit Napoleon's house. Ugly dirty town.
Ugly dirty town. Better to go to other places where the local governments have cleaners and have improved the city, like Corse which is an amazing city. After being in Corse and then coming to Ajaccio it is a real disappointment.Guest review byPeterAustralia

Two yards from a small road lined with cafes and little shops. A little further to restaurants serving dinner. Also a Salon du Thè for breakfast of freshly squeezed jus d'orange and tasty pastries. The hotel where you collect the keys is a short walk away and the receptionist kindly walked with us and settled us in.
