FAQs about hotels in Chartres

A Labyrinth of History and Architecture

Chartres is a French medieval town in the Eure-et-Loir department, about 90 km from Paris. Home to historic 16th-century buildings, half-timber houses, narrow streets and large squares, this well preserved city will amaze you with its beauty.

The 13th-century Cathedral of Chartres is the city’s main landmark and a famous site of Christian pilgrimage. Featuring 18th-century stained-glass windows and a stunning façade with bas-relief sculptures and stone statues, this UNESCO World Heritage is one of the most important Gothic cathedrals in France.

On the back side of the Cathedral, travellers will find a Grass Labyrinth, date back to around 1200. According to the tradition, pilgrims used to go to the centre of the labyrinth in order to receive the grace of God.

The Massacre Bridge is one of the bridges crossing the Eure River, which flows right to the heart of the old part of the city. Chartres has also beautiful churches like the St. Aignan and the St. Martin-au-Val.

Chartres Train Station offers direct trains to Paris and Booking.com will help you find a hotel close to the station, in the city centre or in the nearby cities of Lucé and Mainvilliers.

A wonderful city with a superb cathedral.

A wonderful city with a superb cathedral. Excellent restaurants and a lovely mini train to take one around the city and show the beautiful illuminations of its historic sites. Well worth a visit and for me a second longer visit

You can walk to everything, lots of restaurants and bars, good shops and a beautiful cathedral which hosts the luminaire which unfortunately we didn't get to see this time but is a regular event, always something going on!

The cathedral was absolutely magnificent as expected but the sound and light show at night was an amazing surprise. Was very quiet on a rainy September day. Maybe visit a bit earlier in the season, the city looks like it would have a good vibe. Take a good walk around as there are many old buildings to see with around 20 featured in the illuminations.

The Old Town is lovely.

The Old Town is lovely. Plenty of places to eat, friendly atmosphere, easy to walk around. Check out the Tourist Information office (great building), and of course, the Cathedral. Obviously beautiful, inside and out. Do stay up to see the Illuminations, not just those on the Cathedral, but also those set about the town - a pleasant and romantic (!) walk, even under an umbrella.

We usually use Chartres as on overnight stop for travelling further south and it's always a pleasant town to visit. The Son et Lumiere display on the Cathedral and other locations around the town centre are always amazing. The central old town is lovely to wander round with plenty of restaurants offering well priced, good quality food, not a fast food chain outlet in sight!

A wonderful City.

A wonderful City. The Catherderal and old city are a must, the light shows on the historic buildings - after sunset until 1:00am? - are also well work staying for (check whick months they are on). There are great places to eat all the city.

We have been regular users of this hotel (for last 5 years) on our journeys back to London from South of France. Although a bit shabby, its location and and on-site restaurant has made it a good stop-over hotel for us. This year everything was poor - our room, the food in the restaurant and the staff. This hotel requires a complete update and overhaul. Only the breakfast remained good.

Bed was comfortable and location was perfect travelling back from south of France. Plenty of eating options in the location, locked parking on site. Family room on 3rd floor and no lift so if mobility issues you would struggle. Room was comfortable and clean, carpet to room was shabby and needs upgrading. Breakfast was perfect and had good options available.

This is a decent hotel. It's half way to our home in France after travelling from the UK. It's dog friendly. Communication is good. Beds are fine. Everything is clean and tidy. Internet works fine.

Great breakfast, and it was really near the cathedral of Chartres. Amazing church, and they painted and renovated with the original colors. We were very satisfied in this hotel. Thank you.
