Chaumont is a small provincial capital (22,000 people), with limited tourist appeal. The most important sight is the 600 metre railway viaduct, just beyond the station; it's worfth a detour. One can visit the main buildings in the city in a couple of hours on foot. The Centre National de Graphisme, which is recommended, was open only from 2 pm when we were there. We dined in the restaurant of the Hotel des Remparts, which was unexpectedly excellent; curiously, it's closed on Sundays and Mondays, but otherwise reservations might be needed. We had a few hours to visit the centre and/or buildings. City centre is poor and poverly. We found almost no restaurants - and only then open after 19.00 hrs.....on reservation. For resting place it is ok - (distance south/north) but there are more interesting places. The restaurant we found (Le Tandem) was extraordinay good....
