I have been watching the utube channel and so we arrived very late so I spent most of the time running around taking photos it was as I had expected and more and Karen was attentive and the Peonie on the dinning room table was a lovely touch. The breakfast was great and the coffee machine was a god send after a day of driving thankyou

If the medieval city of Martel is a crown topping this part of the Dordogne Valley, then Le Petit Moulin is the jewel in the crown. It's perfectly located in a quietish street in the main part of town, and offers lots of dining tables, a Wine Bar and shop, plus 5 delightful hotel rooms. We stayed 2 nights and ate 2 dinners at Le Petit Moulin and were enchanted by the staff, the menu and our room. Camille, Florian and the other waiters know the menu and make excellent wine pairing suggestions. The chef uses local, seasonal ingredients and creates stunning flavour profiles. The menu is relatively small, which is a sure sign of freshness and home-cooked food. There is a starter and a main dish of the day to round out the offerings. The restaurant is open 7 days a week for both lunch and dinner; reservations are highly recommended due to its popularity. Owner Adrien has recently refurbished 5 bedrooms in this corner building, and ours was exceptional. The modern design combined with some older features create a lovely blend and ensure your comfort. The bathroom is gorgeous with two sinks, toilet, and walk-in shower. The buffet breakfast features hand-crafted croissants and pains au chocolat such as I have never seen during over 40 years living in France. Martel itself is a real gem; lively old buildings and everyday shops that show that real people live in the town. There is a good selection of restaurants to serve the many tourists, but we did not feel like we were in an overly tourist-oriented spot. All in all, Le Petit Moulin provided us with an excellent base for eating, drinking, sleeping, and exploring the area. We intend returning!

The fact that it was very clean and this is absolutely not always the case in France, very quiet, nice breakfast and on some evenings a very good quality three course diner. Lovely small villages to visit nearby. Beautiful rural region. Excellent quality for a fair price.

St Denis lès Martel is a lovely tranquil place to stay and this is a fitting chambres d'hote to pick. The place is clean and pretty, and the hosts were so kind, even putting a bottle of water in the freezer so that I had cool water for my cycle ride. Their two dogs are very friendly, and there are even swallows. I look forward to going back.

    A great village to discover and it always seemed active with...

    A great village to discover and it always seemed active with shoppers and diners. We only stayed two nights but it would make a perfect location for a week or more to explore the area. Parking was easy, the main square was lively and there were several good restaurants. There is a lot to see and do in the area.

    Fantastic B&B with a lovely restaurant. Super clean room, massive sofa bed, great big bathroom and an upstairs mezzanine. It was perfect for a family of 4. Simple french breakfast. We had dinner in the restaurant, lovely kids menu, great seasonal dishes and local wines. Martel is a charming town, it provided a great stop on the way back to the UK from the south of France.

    We loved our stay at La Devine in Martel. It was quiet and central in the village. The location was central to the areas we wanted to visit in the Lot. Our hostess was helpful and made suggestions about places to visit, markets and restaurants. Sylvia was most encouraging as I made attempts to communicate in French language.

    Loved the location under the cliffs. Gluges has some semi-troglodyte dwellings. Loved the hotel's outdoor space..... bar, patio, pool, garden. Fantastic that it was so close to the river Dordogne where we had swim at Gluges 'plage'. Great for canoeing on the Dordogne. Restaurant was pretty good too.
