Peillon is a medieval village perched on top of a hill, literally at the end of a steep winding road. The village is delightful with great views down the valley so it doesn’t take long to explore it. There are some good walks but the paths are rough and steep so not easy walking, particularly in hot weather. The highlight for us was lunch at Le Plaisirs - a fabulous little restaurant in the village where the food was outstanding and great value. Remarkable village in beautiful scenery, it's a great surprise it's not swarmed with tourists like similar, yet closer to the coast Eze. It's very small and doesn't even have a shop, just one place to stay and two restaurants, but it's atmospheric and not easy to get to (both by car or on feet). Small village at the top of the mountain next to the hotel is something out of the fairytale, we absolutely loved it! The hotel itself looks like the time have stopped at the start of the 20th century, clean and cosy and although we had a problem with the terrace door it was sorted quickly by the manager, first class service and good food was also a bonus. The view from the terrace, where you could have breakfast, lunch, and dinner, was a treat, and so was the cuisine. Thomas the owner of the apartment happens to be the Chef at the local Auberge de La Madone restaurant. It was a real treat to have amazing food and wine so close by.
