    Saumur is a gem of a town, there are so many activities that...

    Saumur is a gem of a town, there are so many activities that you can participate in, whether cycling, kayaking, walking around the historic town or going for the famous degustation at one of the numerous vineyards that are within easy distance. It is also the gateway to dozens of chateau. There are cruises on the river to suit most budgets and restaurants from the basic to the expensive. There are also various markets and festivities that take place. If you have time the Petits Train is a must, forty minutes being driven around the historic town gives you a new perspective on life, especially the view from the right bank which lets you enjoy the historic panorama on the left bank.

    Lovely relaxed atmosphere with some great restaurants.

    Lovely relaxed atmosphere with some great restaurants. The Chateau was interesting but I've visited better. The Cavalry museum was informative and only 6 euros for entry. Loads of tourists around in August but this just added to the ambiance. Clean streets and no litter!

    The old town has lots of shops, bars and restaurants, interesting architechture. and a view of the Loire. The Chateau is beautiful. The tank museum (Musee De Blindes) is very interesting with most exhibits having both English and French descriptions.

    A walkable city, very compact.

    A walkable city, very compact. Good buses to places of interest and to visit the other side of Saumur over the river. Lots to do for everyone, Cadre Noir horse show, an armoured vehicle museum which is very interesting. Vineyard trips. Activities and restaurants to suit every budget.

    Sadly not as pretty or enjoyable as our previous visit some years ago. Pretty grubby street wise, could do with a good clean and some flowers might improve it's appearance. We were only there for a two day visit. We visited the Calvary musem, took a boat trip and took the little train tour around the city All the attractions we visited were very good, friendly staff and good value for money

    Saumur is a beautiful town on the banks of the River Loire, with many restaurants and places to visit. The whole area quite lovely with many unspoilt villages and towns nearby. It is a very good base to tour the area visiting many of the Chateau of the Loire Valley.

We loved the attention to detail throughout, the warmth of the welcome provided by Régis and the quality and care that went into providing a sumptuous breakfast with the highest quality local and organic ingredients. All together, a very tranquil experience in a hotel where personality shines. Thanks again to Régis and the whole team. We have already recommended to friends and family for trips taking them through Saumur!

    We had the most wonderful stay Aux Marquises. An extremely beautiful, comfortable, elegantly decorated home, with a lot of space for guests! The owners gave our family the warmest welcome, including the most delicious breakfasts we had in all of our visit to France, and wonderful recommendations of things to do and places to eat around Saumur. A real jewel, very warmly recommended -- thank-you so much! I hope we get to go back one day!

    Location was excellent with car park adjacent to the hotel. Casino Supermarket 1 minute walk for any essentials. Reception team were very helpful and friendly. Saumur has plenty to offer - shops to browse and plenty of choice of restaurants/vineyards and castles nearby. Unfortunately, we were using this as a night stop on enroute home however will return to the area to explore further !

    Excellent reception staff and check in. Perfect hotel for one night stay in the centre of Saumur whist cycling the Velo route. Receptionist very accommodating with regards to us leaving very early in the morning with our bicycles.
