A small, compact city that's a little run-down and in need of some government cash to bring more people in. We've never been in such a quiet city centre on a Saturday night; plenty of pubs, not enough people! So many Turkish barbers, so few decent restaurants...and no hotels! Plenty of take-out eateries, but that's not what tourists need! Lovely setting, Welsh government: you're missing out on tourism in Bangor, so splash the cash and glam it up...decent restaurants, a couple of hotels and a modern bar or two. Like many, many towns and villages in North Wales, Bangor...
Like many, many towns and villages in North Wales, Bangor could be a mecca for visitors and could rival any honeypot in Britain. Could. For some reason, either by deliberate design or accident, most of this potential goes unrealised, so that towns are not just 'quiet' - they are borderline dreary, with boarded up shops and a sense of desolation. We like Bangor Tandoori and I think there are some nice cafes, and we have often enjoyed evening strolls round the university and the quite lanes near the pier, but we would only really view Bangor as a base for visiting the Snowdonia mountains.Guest review byMarkUnited Kingdom - 6.0

Not much going on but we only used it as a strategic location. i woukld not go there just to see bangor. The main part of the town is very run-down, lots of empty shops, dirty, lots of rubbish in the streets. We have only been to the bus station at Bangor before, not stayed there, but will definitely not visit again. Went for my birthday and they went out their way to set up the table for my birthday with confetti on the table. The food was amazing and the breakfast was even better. The staff were really helpful and personal, which I think is hard to find nowadays. The rooms were equipped with absolutely everything you needed and the towels were so soft.
