I lived in Barton as a child, (45 years ago…)and have very fond memories of it. I came back with my brother for a trip down memory lane. Some lovely pubs, fantastic buildings and really friendly people. A walk through Baysgarth Park was a delight as every single person we passed said ‘good morning’. So nice to see a public space being used by all the community. The Sloop (amazing food) The George and The Volunteer Arms were particular favourites, and Bengal Village for a Sunday night curry.

Barton upon Humber is a little bit run down.

Barton upon Humber is a little bit run down. The George Inn is lovely and probably the best place to eat and stay in the area. Loads of place were shut down. Its a good walk to the Humber Bridge but well worth it, or you can drive there and park on the huge car park. I would suggest parking and exploring the area. One you have done the Humber Bridge nothing much else to see or do in the area (that we could find). We were there on a Sunday so the shops that might open, were closed. Huge amount of takeaways, covering all tastes. Although everywhere is run down, the locals are very friendly and everyone seems to know everyone, and everyone talks to everyone whether you are known or not.

I stayed in Barton upon Humber because I was visiting friends and family in the area but Barton and the surrounding area does have a lot of history and natural beauty. Close to Lincoln, the Wolds, the Humber Bank and just across the river Humber from Hull, there are plenty of places to visit and explore.

I called in the wheatsheaf for a coffee with my dog before walking to were I was staying very friendly. Ive also had a lovely vegetarian meal at the sloop and had my dog with me. Its nice at the cafe down on the waters edge. Only thing is if you're alone with your dog you carnt go in to order food

The whole experience was lovely and personal from the start. The restaurant is beautiful and the room was along a quaint corridor with a lovely simple style. The staff were amazing. We didn't eat in the restaurant but went for a nightcap and the chef was chatting to us about our stay and the area - we felt extremely welcome. We were even invited to join his party. The food in the morning for breakfast was absolutely gorgeous! We even told some friends to come for breakfast who had stayed in another hotel!

The staff were friendly and very helpful. Our room was clean and well presented with a good bathroom and comfortable beds. The breakfast on Sunday was greshly cooked and excellent while the alternative we were offered on Saturday morning was very good. The hotel has a very good town centre location with all the town's amenities in an easy walk. Though the car park is small, there is plenty of free on street parking very close by.

The bedroom was excellent. The quality of the fixtures and fittings, the comfort of the bed and the room as a whole was very good, I slept really well. The member of staff who checked me in and who I spoke with later in the evening was very friendly and helpful. I will seriously consider this hotel again next time I am in the area.
