We didn’t stay long in Chard but it is a lovely place. We visited Ford Abbey but unfortunately we could only explore the gardens as the house doesn’t open Saturday and Mondays which was disappointing.

Chard seems a bit scruffy in places although the high street was nice. Parking is a problem if you don't have coins, the parking app is very disjointed. That isn't Chard's fault. This is just a first impression, wasn't able to fully explore as only a short stay. Surrounding countryside is stunning.

Chard has rather a lot of empty shops, but those which remain are very good. E.g., the local bakery and butchers are very traditional and a high standard. We saw an excellent amateur performance of 'The Sound of Music' in the Guildhall, indicative of a warm and caring community. Good local supermarket.

I came to visit family so I wasn't a tourist as such. However I do like Chard, it's got a nice community feel. The staff in shops are friendly and helpful. I love having a rummage in the charity shops and Home Bargains. We had a family lunch at The Bath House which was delicious and the people there are great too.

I remember Chard from my youth (1960's) and it had obviously changed in some ways but it is an interesting town with a good selection of shops and eating /drinking places. The old cinema of my youth (The Cerdic ? ) is now a Wetherspoons. I wish I had more time to explore.

A small town, not many places to eat out...we ate where we stayed at The Bath House Hotel and restaurant - a Malaysian fusion restaurant, rather pricey but a nice meal. A good base to travel on from or go to places to visit - we had a day in Sidmouth from Chard , so an easy place to travel from!!

10/10 for an excellent breakfast with a good selection of food. Cooked to order and served hot and very well presented. Dinner was tasty. Staff extremely professional, friendly and welcoming, including giving tour of hotel facilities. Room was spacious and quiet, bathroom excellent. Hotel grounds were wonderful.

The breakfast was substantial for me and the location meant I could have walked to all my appointments in Chard if parking had been better.
