This gorgeous hotel saved my trip after being unable to sleep for four nights in a row in sketchy "boutique" hotels. One of the best small-room designs I've ever experienced. Everything in its place, with beautiful materials. It was worth the splurge in every way. Staff were very kind at a busy time, and left a charming local New Year's gift at the door. I didn't try the breakfast, but there was a free espresso/latte machine in the lounge where you could look out at the River Ness. Location was spectacular for river walks, and was about 10 minutes on foot from the train and bus stations. It's also five minutes from an excellent organic cafe, a wine bar, and a landmark bookstore. I'll stay at any available AC hotels first in the future and skip the rest.

FAQs about hotels in Inverness

Gateway to the Highlands and Loch Ness

A jewel with historic buildings and charming streets, Inverness is surrounded by a typical Scottish Highland landscape. It is located 10 km from Loch Ness, along the mouth of the Ness River and the Moray Firth coast. It is regarded as the northernmost city in the United Kingdom, and capital of the Highlands.

Take a walk around the Old Town, visit St Andrew’s Cathedral, and make a stopover in the charming Victorian Market. The Old High St Stephen's Church is the oldest building in town, and has been a religious site since pre-Christian times.

The Inverness Castle overlooks the river and is nowadays the seat of the Sheriff Court. A hotel in Inverness city centre is ideal to enjoy the different cultural and recreational activities in town.

Watch the Atlantic salmon jumping out the river near the Ness Islands, and try to catch a glimpse of the famous monster of Loch Ness. The Cairngorms National Park is 40 km away, and Chanonry Point is the best spot to watch dolphins, just 24 km away.

Inverness hotels include a large offer of small, cosy guest houses, B&B’s, and rural cottages, allowing a closer contact with the nature. Don’t miss the Inverness accommodation deals on Booking.com!

Inverness was very nice in itself with many restaurants, pubs and bars offering plenty of choice of local and all cusines, and was an excellent base for, as we did, travelling around to various locations in the Highlands.

Inverness is very central to interesting places to visit. There are plenty of restaurants in Inverness within easy walking distance. We particularly enjoyed Johnny Foxes. If you do not have a car, there is a convenient train station and bus station (both of which we used) We visited Balmoral, Cairngorms, Aviemore - they were all excellent

It took a while to find a real pub, but the Glenalbyn was great. Way too many glitzy bars or eateries pretending to be pubs though. Homeless people seem a problem, though the guy selling the Big Issue outside the railway station was great, friendly and good for directions, it was the others begging who were a worry.

I've been to Inverness before and always enjoyed the atmosphere in this city. If you want to experience more of the Highlands, book your tours ahead of time. Whatever tour you book, it's always worth it. The scenery is extraordinary and listen to the locals: their accent gives you a very special feeling during your stay. That is priceless.

Did not spend any time in the city, I’m not a city person so I was delighted that Glamness has the vibe of the grounds of some country house that it may once have been. The owners have thought carefully about the siting of the cabins for privacy and convenience. The cabins are newly done and super clean. Easy self check in and out. This was the ideal spot to finish our coast to coast cycle ride. Few facilities in the area so a trip to tescos and use the self catering facilities was the best option.

The night life was very lively.

The night life was very lively. However, that might have been due to the Loch Ness Marathon event on Sunday, with around 10,000 runners, and more friends, family and supporters in the town, including myself. All the pubs and restaurants were packed on Saturday night and the train leaving on Monday morning had standing room only. It was a lovely town, with the beautiful, wide, River Ness flowing through it. There seemed to be lots of space to move around and crossing the roads was easy during the day. There a number of lovely parks nearby, including the Torvean parkrun, which I tried out on Saturday.

The view across the River Ness & hills beyond was excellent from my room on 5th floor. Nice breakfast with plenty of choice. Hotel was handy for public transport, about 3 mins walk from railway station. [Inverness also known as the 'Highland Capital' has rail services heading north, south, east & west - I recommend the 'Spirit of Scotland' Rail-Rover Ticket which gives 4 or 8 days of virtually unlimited travel anywhere in the country at a reasonable price.]

Super modern, very clean, beautiful modern bathroom, large walk in shower, french doors out to the garden. Breakfast was top notch. I travel all over Scotland with private clients touring every season, Inverness is a popular stop over and I have never seen this guest house available before. I definitely hit lucky on the last minute booking I made. Would definitely stay here again, if I am lucky enough for availability in the future.
