Things that couldn’t be altered, but good as can be were the stairs for older people, but hand holds both sides .check the front door is locked as it wasn’t when we went,luckily I checked it. The room itself was comfortable. The shower was in the bath which is always difficult and concerning when you are older The bar area was very basic and had little or no comfortable seating. Dinner was fairly good. Breakfast was again ok. They only had cooked food in offer. No cereals were available. Restaurant seating could have been more comfortable. Location was good. If you want a peaceful spot to stop & enjoy the canal & the beautiful nature that Wiltshire & the surrounding counties provides, this is absolutely the place for you. It's sleepy & relaxing with lovely canal walks & friendly locals to tell you all the best kept secrets of the area. You'll need a car if you want to visit local towns with more shops & amenities or hop on a train at their little railway station. This village isn't somewhere to be busy that's for sure which is exactly what we were looking for. It took ten minutes to visit the fantastic antique shops of Hungerford by car & about fifteen minutes to visit the lovely market town of Marlborough. It was spacious and had nice teas and coffee etc. The staff went out of their way to help us when we were going through a very difficult and sad time. I can’t thank them enough for their kindness and generosity. The breakfast was delicious and we looked out onto a beautiful garden and the river. I think the bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in. The staff were absolutely lovely and couldn't do enough for you. We also had breakfast each morning which was also really nice.
