Leadhills is within 40 minutes' walk of Wanlockhead which has an excellent museum and associated tours by history & geology experts. Both villages offer walking routes of interest, and are steeped in mining history. There are also two miners' libraries for interior viewing only founded in the 1700s. Other than a hotel, and one or two small daytime shops, there are very few other amenities.

Leadhills is a quiet small village. There is a museum to visit on set days. It even has a golf course. The Hopetoun Arms Hotel is the highest residential hotel in Scotland. Perfect rural location, friendly staff, comfortable and spacious room and delicious food. Highly recommend the Hopetoun Arms Hotel.

The Hopetoun arms was a small country house hotel rather than pub with friendly and caring staff. I was very comfortable there as a solo traveller. Plenty of local history and an interesting village to walk around with paths direct onto the moors

Leadhills is an historic village high in the hills of Dumfries and Galloway. I came here for a motor biking adventure and I wasn't disappointed. There is plenty of info on the web so if you're not sure, get on line. I loved it

I could not fault the cottage or the village we stayed in. The locals were very friendly and helpful. The cottage was exactly what we needed and more, had everything you need. Would be coming back again.
