    Beautiful building, fantastic surroundings, some great staff, Laura, Will, Monica. Lots of new work going on to extend health and beauty facilities but fear it might be at the expense of improving existing where without doubt with exceptions, many staff are in urgent need of help, not training, help. Bit like the old expression, “ fur coat and no knickers “

    Perfect location for family to stay while attending a...

    Perfect location for family to stay while attending a wedding nearby. Staff very helpful and friendly. Beautiful historic building with plenty of places to take a quiet moment, inside or outside. Views of surrounding lands wonderful. Would certainly stay in Matfen again.

    We have been to a few other places in this area - Matfen...

    We have been to a few other places in this area - Matfen stands out from the crowd. So many 4/5* places disappoint but this did not - it earned its stars. Gorgeous countryside, interiors quite stunning and food was good.

    We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful hotel ,had lunch in the clubhouse and dinner in the hotel both were excellent. The staff in both the clubhouse and hotel were very professional and friendly.

    Muld in swimming pool showers Very old mattress in new part of the hotel with dipping hole No regard for guest who has paid 290£ for a dinner and asked to seat in certain table that we always seat. Even though the restaurant was empty. No welcome chat or explanation about breakfast time or where new restaurants located Cleaners removed personal paper work that was left in room I was addressed as Mr in my welcome card left in the room Nut a very good internet

    The luxury suite is superb although costly in comparison to other similar 5 stars hotel. But we know it and like it just the same. We ate at all the 3 restaurants. Simple food at the golf club The Keepers, fine dining (not yet there) The Emerald with beautiful interior but slow service due to the kitchen rather then the serving staff. The interior of the whole hotel is superb and impressive. Cleanliness is super and so are all the staff. Highly recommend the hotel.

    The choice from the breakfast-menue was excellent, very varied and complaying with all different needs. Our room was very luxerious, niceley decorated and the bathroom one of the very best. we enjoyed one of the very best afternoon teas at the Matfen Hall and keep a very good memory of a truly old country home in a beautifully natural setting. We felt that no expenses were spared to turn an extraordinary building into a very special hotel. We just loved it and will surely come back to Matfen Hall

    Located approx 20 minutes from Newcastle Airport we were looking for a 1 night pit stop. We now realise that this hotel is well worth an extended stay. We plan to return in May 2025. The hotel beautiful and the staff very engaged and pleasant. Our room (4) was very nice if a little warm. Our Breakfast was freshly cooked and tasty with a huge choice. It made a nice change to not have a hot buffet with overcooked eggs. We checked out the spa facilities and they looked good.

    I took the trouble to send to Matfen Hall an email on 20th April setting out all my comments covering my stay. It was sent to info@matfenhall.com but I've had no reply. I will be impressed if you respond to this but not surprised if you don't. I've given a low score because I want you to pay attention!
