We arrived early and were welcomed. The weather was awful - Middleham had had a good downfall of snow overnight, albeit a little early. We enjoyed a drink in the bar area whilst our room was ready. Our room was spotlessly clean, with an excellent view of Middleham Castle. We enjoyed a pre-dinner drink in the bar where we met Fiona - the proprietor. What a lovely lady. Our meal was excellent - could not be faulted. After a restful night's sleep, we were delighted to see that the snow has disappeared. Breakfast was absolutely scrumptious. It certainly set us up for the rest of today - Sunday 24th. Very nice to see the race horses being exercised. Fiona explained that Middleham is the Newmarket of the North - many riding stables in the area. Another visit is a MUST. Next time we will take our dog with us to meet Fiona!!

This is character inn in the centre of Middleham. Has a lively atmosphere, with a good mix of people, without any posh tossers. Food was tasty and not expensive. Best thing about it was the staff who were truly exceptional. The cook prepared us something outside of regular hours, the barman offered to come in early to prepare breakfast if we needed an early start, and the floor manager was always ready to help. Prices were excellent. I’ve often paid more for less. We stayed three nights and every morning we watched horses and riders going through town. Small town charm, with Yorkshire hospitality. Thank you all!

We loved staying here, the village was beautiful and the pub amazing! Food was outstanding! Our room was fab, absolutely no complaints. The owner and her team could not have been nicer, especially when we thought we might not make it home due to a bad storm. Lovely lovely people and we will defiantly be back to stay and explore the local area more. Thanks for a wonderful weekend

Wonderful stay and fantastic hosts. Leyburn is very central and therefore a good location to explore the Yorkshire Dales. Parking is free and the room was very clean. Will return for sure. Can recommend to join the pub quiz.

Picturesque Yorkshire Village with The Countyman's Inn as the focal point of village life. The pub looks from the inside like you would expect an old English pub to be , with a few modern vibes ( german beer).The food is good old yorkshire grub , but more modern food is available too. And it's all yummy , especially the breakfast.The rooms are quirky but clean and have everything you need. We really enjoyed our stay here , and the service is superb.

    This spot is a little gem of a find! We enjoyed our stay so much and felt pampered by the staff and facilities the entire time. Such a beautiful surroundings and grounds. We enjoyed our stay very much---would highly recommend!

    Only an overnight stay but in a short walk round we found many places of interest and surrounding area is beautiful. We would like to revisit to go round Richard III castle and see the Forbidden Corner.

    Beautiful views and walks Friendly people Great pubs And got to see lots of race horses I would highly recommend the Coverbridge Inn that you can walk along the river to probably about 2 miles away. This pub is friendly and a traditional pub with great ales and delicious home cooked food

    Picturesque little market village with the added interest of...

    Picturesque little market village with the added interest of several race horse stables in the location. A walk up to the gallops early in the morning to watch the horses train is definitely worthwhile, as is a visit to the medieval castle.

    Visited The Forbidden Corner which was great fun.

    Visited The Forbidden Corner which was great fun. We had a light lunch at the cafe on site, which was nicely presented. Evening meal was taken at the Three Horseshoes which was about a 15 minute drive away. Called in at Aysgarth Waterfalls on the way home the following day. The Forbidden Corner was very busy as it was the school holidays, however as visits are timed, I think this helps when planning a visit.

    We had a mid-week break at Babiican cottage and we both really enjoyed our stay. The cottage was provided with everything we needed and the location is great. Lots of choices of walks for the dog nearby. Leyburn is within walking distance or a short drive away. Middleham is an ideal location for exploring beautiful Wensleydale and the locals are very friendly too. We will be back!

    Great building in fabulous setting in middle of nowhere and so quite. Nice to have a choice of real cask beers. Excellent restaurant, very atmospheric with outstanding food, steak was exceptional as was breakfast. Very well equipped and presented rooms. Plenty of walking routes available directly from the hotel into the surrounding countryside and horse gallops.

    The breakfast was spot on! Choose the previous night and arrives at your table as soon as you sit down. The hotel is ideally set in the centre of town, with lots of parking. A nice forecourt area to relax in and watch the world go by on a nice day. Food was exceptional especially theBeef Wellington, and the Cod loin not far behind.
