    Loved the outlook from room.

    Loved the outlook from room. Although lake wasn’t quite as near as expected. Loved the geese especially flying in in the morning. Didn’t stay long but enjoyed afternoon walk around Newbury with coffee and cake in tearoom on canal side.

    This is a very nice hotel with very pleasant staff.

    This is a very nice hotel with very pleasant staff. The rooms are spacious and a good size. Everywhere is very clean. Breakfast has very good quality food. The reason we gave it a fair is that the shower was faulty. We couldn't turn the temperature down and the water was boiling hot so we were unable to shower for our journey home.

    The friendly staff at this hotel made our stay perfect.

    The friendly staff at this hotel made our stay perfect. The hotel bar and facilities were excellent. I am now arranging a large party to stay here next year and enjoy the lovely hotel and well kept grounds. It was a joy to sit on the patio at the sports bar and enjoy the view if the grounds and lake. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff always checking your needs were Met. Can’t wait for our next visit.

    Newbury is surprisingly good for shopping we didn't get...

    Newbury is surprisingly good for shopping we didn't get around half the shops..if only we had more time ..we spent time at Highclere Castle famous for the TV programme Downton Abbey quite a few surprises and lovely gardens again, it would have been nice to have more time to see the Horse racing and waterfall. If only I had booked for a few days.

    I was staying overnight as part of a 2 day race meeting, 100 miles from home, Coincidentally, my visit was met by a piece of news that had grabbed the nation's attention. A model of Paddington Bear had recently been stolen by 2 misguided characters but happily had been found and restored to its location just a day or two earlier, I was encouraged by my wife to go and grab a photo. He is perched on a bench in a pedestrianised street near the River Kennet crossing of Bartholomew St. The town mid Saturday was very lively and pleasant and Paddington had his share of well wishers.

    A wonderful little town, very walkable, and close to many...

    A wonderful little town, very walkable, and close to many other sites like Donnington Castle and Highclere Castle that offers a fabulous tour. There’s a nice Farmer’s Market on the weekends, many shops, a Tesco nearby, and others a little further away…many choices.

    The staff are so friendly and the food was excellent - it's a beautiful setting so close to the Watermill Theatre and Newbury. We were doing two private painting classes with the lovely local and very talented artist - Gail Davis (www.artgaildavid.com) and the hotel was so handy for that.

    I rang to say that we would be arriving late. The individual I spoke with was extremely helpful. On arrival the individual on reception was aware of our situation and again extremely helpful. Location is excellent if wanting a hotel just off the M4 at Newbury. Breakfast was excellent.

    Everything about The Elephant at the Market !! The room was fantastic , with everything you needed . The hotel/pub is in a fantastic location for exploring Newbury town centre and enjoying a fantastic night out . Excellent value for money and would definitely stay there again

    The Chequers Hotel is right in the centre of Newbury with shops, bars and restaurants within walking distance. I have used this hotel, initially for business and then for pleasure for almost 30 years. They must be doing something right.
