Rhayader is a lovely town but there is nothing much there...
Rhayader is a lovely town but there is nothing much there anymore. It is the gateway town to Elan Valley, which is absolutely awesome...... the scenery and the walks are stunning. Location was fantastic, close to all we needed, we will definitely be recommending to our friends. Having visited many times I recommend all walks around the various Elan Valley lakes - especially the West side of Garreg Ddu and the south/east side of Caban Coch, the Hafod estate near Cymystwyth via the mountain road, the Devils Bridge railway into Aberystwyth, Aberystwyth, Strata Florida, Ynyslas sand dunes, Llyn Brianne and the exciting mountain road from Beulah to Tregaron. Rhayader is a beautiful part of the world and you are surrounded by breath taking scenery and places to visit where you can just relax and get away from it all. A visit to the dams at Elan Valley are a must and Red Kite feeding at Gigrin Farm is an absolute spectacle to behold. Plenty of places to eat & drink in the town and surrounding area and you are only a 45 minute drive from the sea at Aberystwyth. Nice town. Nice food in Triangle Inn and The Crown pub. Nice tea room round the corner from Penralley guest house. Elan valley visitor centre just a short distance away and worth visiting plus the main reason, driving around the Elan valley which was brilliant.Guest review byGraham

They are warm hearted and incredibly generous. I had a fantastic time in Elan Valley Hotel. I was looked after like a combination of royalty and family. The bed was enormous and sumptuous. The food was delicious and I really had a memorably special time. Come here to enjoy the beautiful Valley and experience true generous hospitality that only the Welsh could provide. We had a minor issue and this was resolved immediately and in a friendly manner. Think this is an excellent place to bring dogs and go for walks. Scenic view and pub nearby too. (We didn’t bring a dog!) At the time, I’d booked a family suite in town for us and our son while my daughter was doing an expedition, and this was the same price so good value to have the whole property to ourselves. Room 4 is particularly spectacular.
