The water front is much the same as many port town island...
The water front is much the same as many port town island fronts. Vibrant and lively with restaurants, bars and cocktail/ice-cream parlours. The large marinas are full of small fishing boats, large fishing boats, flotilla holiday yachts, luxury yachts and flying dolphins. Aegina is the home to the best pistachio nuts in the world and they are on sale everywhere, that and local honey. One street back from the front is where the gift shops are and more restaurants. In theory the back streets are pedestrianised, but scooters wizz through them, so take care, particularly at intersections, they don't slow down. A colorful and vibrant island, with beautiful shops and excellent restaurants. Like everywhere in Greece, the locals are friendly, and the atmosphere is wonderful. When booking the ferry, pay attention—there are two ports on the island: one is the main port, and the other is secondary. The main port brings you closer to the livelier, more touristy area. We had 3 days in Aegina, which was good for us. Sufficient time to see the whole island, however, if you are to a beach holiday you could easily spend a week, as the island and the town has much to offer, especially the beautiful water and the great restaurants. Aegina is a very easy boat trip from Piraeus with about 10 ferries daily. It is beloved by Athenian day trippers so the boats, the towns and the beaches can be extremely crowded. It still retains a lot of charm and is well worth a visit. However, once official summer begins with the Whit Bank Holiday weekend it would be necessary to book everything - ferries, restaurants, taxis - in advance. There is a very limited bus service so plan your visit around the timetables, otherwise you will be faced with long queues for very expensive taxis. There are plenty of good restaurants and bars but don't go expecting a bargain - meals and drinks are expensive enough unless you shop around. In Marathonas we recommend Stratigos (excellent value) and Ammos (wonderful daily specials).Guest review byTerry

The location of the hotel was just on a fraction distance of everything-walking distance to the port, shops,walking to the bus station,walking tho the beach, churches and all of the local shops. Place feelt very safe and comfortable. It had all additional essentials-chairs,table,kettle, cutlery etc. A cute balcony with big windows overlooking the sea, boats and the sunset. It is spacious and organised with amazing views if the Saronic gulf. We were a family of 5, the kids realy enjoyed our time there. The host was very helpful and provided everything we asked for. A very nice and friendly person and also all the staff were the same. He personally brought us and our luggage to our room. At the end of our stay the hotel had no problem in holding our luggage while we waited for our ferry off the island.
