The island’s capital has an incredibly rich and fascinating history — a blend of ancient, medieval, and Ottoman influences that you can truly feel in every street of the Old Town. Rhodes has the most extensive historic walls and historic buildings in phenomenal shape that I have ever seen in Europe. It is simply stunning. That said, in season, Cruise ships disgorge thousands upon thousands of passengers each day and even in October- when we went - it was packed. I think it would be hell in July and August. The historic little streets were full of shops, cafes and restaurants, but you could still get a sense of what the town was like centuries ago. Definitely worth a visit, as was Lindos for which we hired a car for only £40 for the day. The staff were very nice, and the location is excellent — right next to the bus stop from the airport and with easy access to other tourist destinations. It's just a 1-minute walk from a lovely beach, and the area is calm and peaceful. The room was new, had air conditioning, and the beds were comfortable.
