Motovun is a charming and almost fairy-tale like village on a hill. We felt like we had completely gone back in time; yet, we had easy access to almost all of the rest of Istria from there, including seaside towns, wine tasting, truffle hunting, olive oil tasting and local shopping. The furthest town was Pula. Everything else was more like 30 minutes. We are spending two weeks in Croatia and we are so thankful we spent three days/nights in Motovun as our hub for visiting Istria. Great place for lovers of medieval hill-top towns and...
Great place for lovers of medieval hill-top towns and truffles. One can enjoy just a stroll through the town and views of surroundings for an hour, can have a great dining experience or stay for days and explore Istria, one of the prettiest and welcoming places on earth. "Medieval" and "hill-top" also mean that you walk a lot on rugged cobblestone, you walk uphill and climb stairs, and "great place" means it's crowded in the high season (summer). A classic medieval town that was so fun to explore. Be sure to visit the cathedral (opened about 10 during our visit) and (carefully) climb the bell tower for a spectacular view of the valley and beyond. The breakfast had scramble eggs with truffles, which was the only place in Croatia that we had this for breakfast.
