A City of Two Halves

With a dome reminiscent of Brunelleschi’s "The Duomo" in Florence, the Hungarian parliament building is undoubtedly the icon of Budapest. It sits majestically by the Danube, the river that both divides and unifies the 2 parts of this capital city: Buda and Pest.

Overseeing Budapest from its vantage point on Castle Hill is Buda Castle. Spectacularly lit at night, it has the best views across this attractive city steeped in World Heritage. Some unique points of interest are Heroes Square and the Museum of Terror, reminders of the city’s more turbulent past.

Much like in Vienna further up the Danube, coffee and cake is practically an institution in Budapest. And there’s nowhere better to try them than Gerbeaud - the elaborate décor alone makes this café well worth a visit.

To really feel like a local, make a trip to the thermal baths. The relaxed Gellért Baths are a triumph of Art Nouveau grandeur and, based on their sheer size, you can't miss the outdoor Széchenyi Baths. If unusual nightlife is your thing, the club nights at these baths are great fun.

With an impressive range of Budapest hotels, apartments and hostels available in this city of 2 halves, Booking.com makes it an easy choice.

Budapest for a city break is outstanding!

Budapest for a city break is outstanding! My husband and I thought it was more cosmopolitan than Vienna but a visit worth doing. The architecture surrounding Buda and Pest was surreal with the Parliament building absolutely stunning!

The summit of our trip was sitting on the steel frames of the Liberty Bridge at night looking over the river with its grand boats and the city in shimmering warm lights. The city is great and when you`re tried of boiling urban life you just flee to it`s islands, pleasant and quite. Excellent food and drinks, including local cusine. But if you gonna fare at Nagycsarnok (where Hungarian specialities are really deliciouse) note that there no cutlery on dispose (exept disposal plastic) and nowhere to wash you hands — which, for me, was a small disappointment. Many amazing places in this city, a jewel of once great empire.

Fabulous city - so much to see and do.

Fabulous city - so much to see and do. We loved walking the streets and seeing things. Is a very easy city to walk. Interesting history. Definitely do a walking tour to get a feel for where you are. Ruin bars are fascinating. Jewish history of the city is heartbreaking but important to learn about and understand. Would visit again

Never go to Budapest. There are many reasons for this.

Never go to Budapest. There are many reasons for this. It's a city that's way too expensive. There are people and institutions entirely intent on taking tourists' money. It's also a city with significant security issues. The municipality and transportation services are incredibly poor. The municipality is completely focused on fining tourists and generating revenue through them. I definitely recommend Prague over Budapest. You can see all of Budapest's attractions in just a few hours. Vienna and Prague are two cities comparable to Budapest, and both are much, much better than Budapest in every way. I absolutely do not recommend Budapest. I would never recommend Budapest to anyone.

The food was EXCEPTIONAL EVERYWHERE, though the service was erratic and inexplicably slow in famous cafes with coffee that was always lukewarm and not piping hot. LOVED the thermal pools, we spent hours immersing ourselves in the range of bathing temperatures, would DEFINETLY REPEAT next time ! However, the Ruin bars were a significant disappointment, seemed to be an artifice for tourist instagrams. Astounding architecture and magnificent views. We decided entrance prices were too exaggerated to go inside many official historical buildings, but lovely from the outside. Just walk and absorb the views AND EAT DEFINETLY a culinary DELIGHT !

This is my 2nd visit in 15 months. I actually upgraded to a junior suite !!! Absolutely luxurious for only an extra £20 a night. One of the best city break hotels I have stayed in from all over Europe. Spotless, luxurious, most friendliest staff I have ever met. Best location in centre but very quiet and still private. 5 mins from Danube, shops, restaurants and easy to catch transport to attractions. Can’t rate this hotel highly enough to anyone visiting Budapest. More like a 5 star hotel!

Nice place with excellent breakfast and beautiful patio, professional service and Corner for kids as well as high chairs which we as parents appreciated a lot. They have garage, 25eur for 24h. Hotel is well maintained and looks nice. It's around 25-30min walk to city centre. Place was comfy for sleeping which is what we craved after few days on the road. Also it was very clean. Few bugs entered but that's issue in Budapest generally on every place I ever stayed there.

Everything was like it was written. The bus station is in front of the hotel and only 15 minutes from city centre. We had free parking in front of the hotel and I didn't expect to much from the breakfast, but that for me was the biggest surprise. They had everything for the breakfast and It was excellent! For that amount of money, it was the best offer!
