The main attraction for us upon booking was the swimming pool and we weren't disappointed. We had the whole pool to ourselves and the owner kindly let us borrow a couple of towels as we were travelling light and had left ours at home. The beds and bathroom were clean while the kitchen area was basic and functional. The bedroom opened out onto a balcony where we could sit and eat breakfast with a view over the mountains.

Love everything about Casa Fara! This is an exceptional property. Centrally located in Fara San Martino and stunning inside. Truly it's the very best B&B type accommodation that I've stayed in. Beds are super comfortable, everything is very luxurious and there's a high attention to detail throughout the property. Luciana is very helpful and hospitable. The included breakfast items were ample and delicious. We will definitely stay again if we're coming to the Abruzzo region of Italy.

Pennapiedimonte is the most beautiful village/place we have visited in our six week trip through Italy. The natural, historical and archaeological beauty goes beyond written or spoken words. Casa Avella is a property which reflects the beauty of the area. This cosy house is in the historic and beautiful old town. However on the inside it has been tastefully renovated and to a high standard of decoration. There was plenty of space for a couple and we loved coming back to it at the end of a busy day exploring. It is handily placed for ships, bars and restaurants, although you may have to park your car about 5 min walk away due to the nature of the pedestrianised streets in the old town.

    Spectacular location.

    Spectacular location. The core of the old village remains, surrounded by a jumble of more recent homes that cascade down one side of the valley towards a spring where water gushes out of the ground to form a river of pure fresh water. Some of it is guided into the pasta factories, there because of the purity of the water. But they are mainly hidden down into one side of the valley, producing pasta that gets exported world-wide. Which means that the village scores well beyond its size, with restaurants and facilities beyond the means of most Italian mountain villages. Main activity is hiking up the narrow gorges into inner-mountain valleys - trails are well maintained, not very steep, easy for most visitors, well-worth some walking time. There are other villages popping up on neighbouring peaks. In the winter the main road running through the village leads to ski resorts higher up the mountain range. And beyond, to Naples on the other side of the peninsula. In summer, lots of villages and small towns to explore or have lunch in.

    While Fara San Martino is a small town, we really enjoyed...

    While Fara San Martino is a small town, we really enjoyed our time there and are eager to go back as three days was not enough. We hiked the gorges, checked out the Del Verde river, wander the town, enjoyed breakfast, drinks and cocktails at Hansel e Gretel, had delicious treats at Pasticceria Pizzeria Monte Amaro, a wonderful dinner at La Villetta, and wandered up to Civitella Messer Raimondo.
