San Gimignano, with the Italian sun glistening intently on its 14 remaining towers, cuts a dramatic figure from its position high on a Tuscan hill overlooking vineyards. San Gimignano is a very vibrant town with lots of good eating places. You will queue for the good ice cream shops up in the square though. Be prepared for a long wait. Good that it's very pedestrianised but a bit slight hill at start may not be to everyone's capability. Good amount of different shops if you like that kind off thing. San Gimignano is a beautiful little place especially before 9am and after 6pm when the streets are quieter. Between these hours it does get very busy as it is a popular tourist stop off. It is full of history and very easy to walk around. There are many places to eat and drink and lots of "souvenir" shops where you can buy wine, cheese, olive oil paintings etc. It is nestled in the countryside, nice for a walk or drive. There are buses too to take you to surrounding places including the train station at Poggibonsi (about 15-20 mins) and Sienna (just over an hour). Spectacular location and view. The roof top terrace was quintessential Tuscany with its incredible view. Exceptionally roomy apt with separate mini-suites for 2 of the bedrooms, really exceptional. The location is nice, lots of restaurants and wineries nearby. The room is sizable and the bathroom has double sink (a nice surprise). The breakfast is the best we have had in Tuscany with great selection of hot and cold dishes; the only thing is on one day I think the milk at the coffee station has gone bad and we had some stomach issues with it. Even though the farm was far away from the city he always offered us a ride (we were traveling with a group of 18-years old and did not have a car). He brought us homemade pasta sauce and mostly because of that we didn't mind any of the accommodation inconveniences. We loved the mini bar (we had never seen such low prices in italy- even lower than in the store) and the pool and the table tennis.
