Hotel is new and well maintained. Room size and comfort above usual standard for this type of hotel in Japan, washing machine in the room was a great plus! Also great idea to offer vouchers to use in certain restaurants of the morning market, excellent opportunity to taste some local specialties. Finally, I must not to forget to mention that coffee/tea are complimentary in the hotel’s lounge on 17th floor (btw with a fantastic view), and I would be remiss in not congratulating the team for everyone’s kindness and professionalism.

    Hakodate per se is a quaint lite town, whose main attractions can be visited in one day. However, it can serve as a hub for exploring southern Hokkaido as it has all the necessary services. Food is certaiy a plus, particularly seafood, and prices are lower than elsewhere. Also, compared to larger towns on Honshu, it has a frontier-type of vibe.

    Hakodate is a beautiful scenic town surrounded by mountains. It's right on the port so lovely for a summers day. We enjoyed our 3 days here, going up Mt Hakodate and walking around the pretty streets. It would be a beautiful spot in Winter when there is snow.

    The people in Hakodate are kind and friendly.

    The people in Hakodate are kind and friendly. There is much to see and do especially in the Spring season. Travelling around on the tram was very convenient. We really enjoyed Goryokaku Park, Mt Hakodate and Hakodate Park. Also enjoyed Morning Fish Market, Museum Ship Red brick Warehouese. Places of interest included Old Public Hall of Hakodate and Museum of Northern Peoples. The fish market in early morning and salt ramen very good.

    If you don't go further than the station/port area, it is a massive tourist trap that feels like it was tailor made for cruise ships. When a RC cruise was in, it was horrible. Even without cruise passengers swarming, it is already very touristy, but one can still find nice spots.

    Hakodate was definitely our favorite visited city on our 3-week trip to Japan. The crowds were non-existent and the city was easily walkable or easily navigated by streetcar and bus. We were here before the May Sakura bloom and would love to return at another time to experience this as well.

    We were only in Hakodate for one night, but we were able to explore the fish market and also to ride the Mt. Hakodate Ropeway for a spectacular view. We easily found a good restaurant within walking distance of the hotel.

    It was very spacious which is (unfortunately) a rarity in Japan. It actually allowed us space to store our luggages properly without tripping over like a hazard. The hotel observes eco cleaning so you don't have full room service every day. But it gives you an option to change your towels daily and clear your garbage. Staff were pleasant and most had basic English to be able to communicate with you. Having an onsen onsite was a plus, allowing you to relax and wind down after a long day. NB: 900m distance from JR Hakodate station.

    Milion dollar view from the hotel lobby and room at the Pacific Ocean/Japanese sea. Private onsen (hot spring water) in the wooden tube on balcony. Public onsen for man/woman. Japanese style accommodation. Staff and service. Location in the northern island - Hokkaido (great in summer heats of Japan) with an easy access to beautiful city of Hakodate. Only 4 hours (860 km) by bullet train Hayabusa (Shinkansen) from the Tokyo Station.

    My favourite hotel during our winter trip to Hokkaido! It is a super cosy place with the most comfortable beds for a good night sleep. Located close to the Ropeway, some cute cafes, ramen places and various restaurants, it is really a place where you can relax after a day of sightseeing :) We will definitely stay here again when we come to Hakodate next time.
