Great place to explore and recharge at the same time.
Great place to explore and recharge at the same time. We spent only two days and would spend a few more days if we knew how great this place is. Plan your day early as everything is quiet after 5pm. The time spent travelling from/to places is considerably longer than any other places we stayed in Japan. We bought the Hakone 2 days free pass and is well worth it. It's very good to visit for 3 days, as you will have time and opportunity to visit Fuji Five Lakes, Mount Fuji, and, if needed, easily travel to Osaka and Kyoto using the Shinkansen. The Ropeway, pirate ship, and Hakone shrine are among the best things to experience. Plan in advance and consider taking a free Hakone Bus, unless you plan to return to Tokyo or Odawara Station.Guest review byRizvonTajikistan - 10.0

Hakone is a wonderful place to visit. Transportation is readily available however, the bus system is very confusing. The Open Air Museum was exceptional - a must see.

Hakone is so far the highlight of 2 weeks in Japan. Could spend 2 nights there easily. The Free Pass was very good value, easy to use, and a great way to see the area. Start early. Ignore the crowds. Research the spots you want to stop. We wasted time in Hakone machi not realising that we would miss out on the open air museum and other spots around Gora. In hindsight we should have stayed in Odawara, hotels cheaper, only 15mins from Hakone, lots more restaurants and a good vibe too.Guest review byLisa BirdAustralia

We came here after Tokyo and was a great place to relax and unwind. We got free socks on arrival too. The onsen was also great to use after a long day. The rooms were spacious and so relaxing. We were also able to get the bus from just outside the hotel to the destinations we wanted to go to. Lake Ashi was about a 30 minute bus ride and was about a 40 minute ride to the train station. The personnel were great and the dinner and breakfast traditional Japanese which we really appreciated. The hotel were close to Lake Ashi and ferries and buses. 5 minutes walk from the hotel was a possible view of Mt. Fuji-san and we were lucky to see it with a blue sky one morning.
