    Karuizawa is a little gem "off the beaten track" for mist travelers to Japan. A tourist loop bus makes it easy to explore. There are coffee shops, restaurants, shops, & onsens. Excellent hiking too! And for those who like to shop, there's a huge outlet mall right next to the train station.

    We had a good time at the Ski Resort and the Shopping...

    We had a good time at the Ski Resort and the Shopping Outlets and plenty of Food Choices. We were able to hike going to Hoshino Olsen and also had a wonderful breakfast in the area. The outdoor ice skating area was also great. Bus schedules are far in between but you can opt to take taxi although more expensive

    We spent a couple of nights here so my kids can do a ski lesson on one of the days. One could certainly choose to take a day trip from Tokyo for such an activity. However, we wanted to get away from the big city that is Tokyo and it was such a lovely experience. By some stroke of luck, it started snowing as well so that's a bonus for my kids. Around the train station and at the Prince hotel 'mall' there is a 7-11 and a number of restaurants that are pretty good. We did not manage to visit the falls unfortunately. All in all, the quiet serene character of Karuizawa was very much appreciated.

    Beautiful area with an Alpine feel.

    Beautiful area with an Alpine feel. Plenty of great restaurants. Lots of beautiful nature and hiking. Definitely take the bus up to Shiraito Falls, a unique waterfall like nothing you’ve ever seen.

    It is such a beautiful town, we did a bicycle tour with a guide and you can basically cover and get to know most of the town and heritage that way. We went in early June and the weather was perfect, cool and just right. 6 days was just nice for us.

    Karuizawa offers an amazing small town charm with excellent food, friendly people, and accessible nature. Definitely check out the Japanese Giant Flying Squirrel tour to view Musasabi! The only downside to this beautiful town is that it's a bit more pricey than the rest of Japan.

    Hotel sits on the central road of Karuizawa town, and it is a 10 min walk from Karuizawa Station (even in snow). It is a nice and cozy place to rest and hang-out with friends and families. Rooms are decorated with simplicity theme. Bathtub is available in the room to enjoy a nice bath after the trip. TV can link to Youtube and play videos of your choice. Breakfast is ordered through menu and drinks are free flowing. There is a happy hour for alcoholic drinks at 9:15pm. Tea and coffee services almost throughout the day.

    Absolutely amazing stay. So glad we found this little gem for our stay in karuizawa, couldn't imagine having stayed elsewhere, only regret we have is we couldn't stay longer. Unique country house hotel with amazing food and even better hosts, thank you Chris and Judy and all the staff at Hotel Wellies for everything. We look forward to seeing you again in the future.

    We stayed at the West Cottage and the size was good for our family of 6. The cottages were cosy and the beds were clean and comfortable. The shuttle service to Karuizawa station was convenient. Though the buses could be small, the hotel was attentive to customer’s needs and additional minivans were added so that we could reach our destinations earlier.
