Camacha was about a 30-minute drive from Funchal and more elevated - and therefore noticeably colder than Funchal down on the coast. It wasn't the most scenic village I've ever stayed in, but it was out of the city and had a couple of great levadas nearby to explore. The surroundings are amazing. We said it's like "to enter fairy's garden" because of all the flowers blooming trees and charm of an older yet well maintained place.
