We were only staying in Caniço, we went there to visit Madeira and really enjoyed it. It's green and beautiful, people are very nice and food is excellent. All of Madeira island is mountainous therefore it would be advisable to rent a car on the island to get around. There was a very good bakery and cafe in the village and a small grocery for essentials. Small town so little nightlife.
Small town so little nightlife. Good bus links into Funchal and down to Canico de Baixo. Good restaurants, especially La Terresa. Two supermarkets and many cafes. Prices lower than in Funchal. Quinta Splendida gardens open to non residents for 4 euros. Lovely place to sit and relax. Not a tourist hotspot so locals go about their daily life. Joao the property owner was very responsive and helped us so much. He welcomed my mum who arrived ahead of us and even took her to the local shops to buy a few bits till we arrived the next day. Ideally located with beautiful panoramic views of Madeira. I would recommend this accommodation. It has very comfy rooms with en-suite bathrooms, heated pool, private viewpoint and garden full of beautiful greenery. The whole villa is very spacious, with many options to chill, sit down and just enjoy Madeira, the ocean and views.
