We really enjoyed the fish. It would be helpful to hire a car as we found it difficult to find our way around the old town with it's maze of roads. As we didin't have a car we took a train to Tavira and the fares for seniors are half price despite being tourists. We love Olhao.
We love Olhao. We are in our 60's/70's and have visited often. We are not 'beach people', but it is lovely to get the ferry over to the island. We also did a 4 hour boat trip round the islands which was good. There is an abundance of restaurants/bars. Ubers are great, as the supermarket is a 15 min walk from the apartment. The train is handy (again, about a 15 min walk, but we used UBER. We visited Tavira which is cute and Faro was good for half a day look around.Guest review byJanUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Lots of sea view properties, I would recommend over looking the Formosa. Around 25 Euros for taxi from Faro airport & 15 mins. If staying at the Marina & market area thats so pretty. It's also just a short walk into the main square. Lots of history. Plenty of places to eat & drink are reasonable prices. One of the nicer areas I've visited in the Algarve.
One of the nicer areas I've visited in the Algarve. A few tourists about about not nearly as busy as Tavira, and as Olhao is a working fishing port, it still has that "local" feel to it. Decent esplanade adjacent to the harbour area although the only poor "rip-off" meal we had during our stay was along the front so my advice would be to go slightly inland where the quality of the food and value for money is a lot better. Nice and sunny during our stay but a bit windy so worth taking a jumper or fleece for the evenings. Best meals were at Piteu ds Baixa Mar, Taberna D'Olhao, Cafe Snack Domino and O Trevo. Olhao is a beautiful fishing town with its fabulous fish and vegetable market. The restaurants are excellent we never had a bad meal .The wine is also extremely good. It’s a beautiful part of the Algarve. Tavira was only a short journey away so it’s also a fabulous place to visit.Guest review bylisaIreland
