My husband and I enjoyed a very relaxing, comfortable stay at this lovely hotel, which is centrally located. We were impressed by the breakfast buffet, but especially the live piano music that accompanied our meal. Such a lovely surprise to open our room door and hear the music throughout the hotel. On two occasions, I was given a flower during the meal, too. Staff were accommodating and helpful, and it was also nice to have complimentary water in the room, as well as a tea kettle. Our room had a small balcony with a view of St. Luzia mountain and the beautiful church.

    Intertesting port town with a huge monastery on top of a hill. Loved the restaurants and it is easy to drive to other areas of Northern Portugal from there. The weather was comfortable, too. Be sure to bring Euros for tram ride to monastery. We went there to rest and relax between our Spain and Portugal tours.

    This city has a really wonderful vibe.

    This city has a really wonderful vibe. I am a woman in my 60s and it felt very safe and inviting. I ate tapas at a restaurant on the boardwalk that were delicious. Walking around the main streets was easy and there were many shops to enjoy. Beautiful boardwalks for walking in along the sea.

    Actually a very good point to use as a base for the area. The town is a very pleasant one with many good restaurants so after a day away, it’s just lovely to return. People tend to be very friendly and welcoming. Very good food options

    A lovely town.

    A lovely town. Not huge but really with lots of old streets and a great fernicular up to the view point. Be aware that the underground car park runs the complete length of the main shopping street, from down by the waterfront all the way up to the train station. There are access points all along the Main Street.

    Lots of interesting places to visit around the area.

    Lots of interesting places to visit around the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks staying here. It was difficult to park in town, so we took a taxi. Which was around 5 euros. The places we liked were Varzim, Ponte de Lima, Valenća - Fortaleza. The hotel at night, do some lovely meals. You can sit out on the terrace, overlooking the river.

    We came in mid August for the festival and parade of Romaria...

    We came in mid August for the festival and parade of Romaria d'Agonia and to see the streets with the salt designs. It was amazing. We loved that the city provided bleachers for the parades and chairs for the folk festival.

    Hotel Laranjeira in Viana do Castelo is in a great location, right in the historic centre of the town and near restaurants and cafes. The river front is just a short walk away. The room was comfortable and light with a nice well appointed bathroom and the bed was comfortable. Everything was lovely and clean. The breakfast was continental style with a variety of breads, cakes, cereals, cold meats, yogurt, drinks and lots of fruit. The staff are friendly, helpful and efficient.

    Great value for money. It was my first room by myself on the Camino, as a treat. The hospitality was fantastic. Since arriving in Portugal I’ve developed an allergy’s cough. I asked the host in the morning if she had anything for a cough, expecting possibly cough sweets, instead she made me a homemade cough mixture from homemade honey and lemons. Which really did help!! This place is an absolute rural gem on the Camino. There’s also a little restaurant just a 5 min walk away.

    Now my wife's favorite hotel. We live here in Viana do Castelo but now plan to celebrate our wedding anniversary here every year. The view is breath-taking, the service is first rate and the ambiance is old world elegance. Reminded us both of the Fairmont in San Francisco. A wonderful stay.
