FAQs about hotels in Chiang Mai

The Rose of the North

Located among Thailand’s highest mountains, Chiang Mai is the beloved, idyllic and somewhat mystic capital of the North. Offering more than 300 temples, it is considered one of the most important cultural centres in the country.

Despite being Thailand's fifth-largest city, Chiang Mai still keeps a relaxed and laidback feel. Modernity, trendy shops and boutique hotels haven’t altered much of its picturesque and peaceful atmosphere.

This reputation is partly due to its proximity to mountains and lush green areas, like Doi Suthep Mountain and its panoramic Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temple. The Doi Inthanon National Park is 60 km away and comprises Thailand’s highest mountain.

Hotels in Chiang Mai’s old city centre are a popular choice, offering a more picturesque experience, with its moat and older temples. Chiang Mai hotels can also be found around the Chang Klhan Rd, where the famous Night Bazaar takes place.

The city’s nightlife runs along the Loi Kroh Rd, while Ratchadamneon Rd hosts the main Sunday night pedestrian market. Don’t forget to buy an umbrella from Bo Sang and eat a bowl of kao soi.

Whether you arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport or come by land from Bangkok, don’t miss 'The Rose of the North' deals on Booking.com!

It is a must see city; many historic things to see and Elephant sanctuaries. just be careful on your food. eat in restaurants as not to get sick. I ate a lunch cooked by Karen tribe on an open fire in the woods at elephant sanctuary and was in hospital for a week.

We recently visited Chiang Mai and had a great time.

We recently visited Chiang Mai and had a great time. Mid Sept is still off season and occasional rains but its not a spoiler at all. Awesome places to eat and shop. Weekend visit is recommended as lots of markets are only on weekends so can take advantage of that. Amazing Vegetable and fruit markets. Would be great to take a Airbnb and cook a nice meal while there. We visited Thaphae Gate, Jingjai Market, Wat Phra Singh, Wat lok Moli to name a few and they were all good. We recommend Siam Bike rentals for good deals for Bikes. We stayed at Jonah hotel and it was great value for money. Eating places Bodhi Cafe , Khoi Soi Mesai and Coconut shell restaurant to name a few. The night market near Marriott Hotel is a must visit.

    Chiang Mai was great.

Chiang Mai was great. Local restaurants in and outside of the city. If you feel brave enough. It’s worth hiring a car and heading into the hills and mountains away from the city as the countryside and national parks is stunning. There a lot of little gems the normal tourist trails worth exploring. I ate at several different restaurants which weren’t the normal tourist restaurants and the food was great and cheap.

Chiang Mai is a city of temples and scenic beauty. We loved the stay there and would definitely recommend for a short getaway from the busy life. We managed to get a good taxi driver Han who took us around the places and we managed to find good vegetarian/ Vegan food choices in the restaurants. It is quite budget friendly and you may want to choose the places you would like to visit. Traffic can be heavy during the morning rush hour and evening time. Night markets are amazing with a lot of handicraft choices. Do not forget to get a massage to relieve your stress. Botanical garden is a must visit place!

Such a beautiful northern city within easy reach of the mountains, full of history, art and heritage. Fabulous places to eat and drink on every street. Brilliant markets with endless food options and great live music. Plenty of places to get a Thai massage, very reasonably priced. It's easy to fly to Chiang Mai, but why not take the train as we did! - a stunning scenic journey from Bangkok (10 hours but it went by quickly!) ... Chiang Mai is also a safe city with a very low crime rate. We felt safe walking the streets, whatever time of day or night. While you're there I especially recommend taking a cookery course - great fun and naturally delicious!

Excellent breakfast options, great location near night bazaars. Amazingly comfortable beds and spacious rooms. Hugely helpful & friendly staff. Hotel also had bicycles we could take to tour the temples in the old city. The staff also went out of their way for our honeymoon to make it special with treats in our room during our stay and decorations!

Just outside, though near the old city wall, it is so easy walking distance to many of the attractions within. There is also a lively small night market on the moat if you like Thai street food. Our room was a good size at the hotel. and the receptions were able to facilitate a slightly earlier than normal check-in, which was appreciated.

Breakfast was AMAZING. One of the best hotel breakfast I think I've had in a hotel that's not buffet style but a lacarte. The staff was lovely and the views to the old town pagoda infront of the pool was beautiful and gave my family the chiang mai experience they needed!

This is a beautiful colonial style hotel, the rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated. It is a bit outside the old city, but travel by Grab (the local Uber) is easy and not dear. We had an a la carte breakfast menu which was excellent.
