Search hotels in Kairouan

Kairouan is fabulous. I walked out at night as a solo woman and experienced nothing worse than courteous and curious looks. I ate in a local restaurant in the Medina and walked safely through vibrant streets back to the hotel. Kairouan has a buzz about it, its historic places are impressive and beautiful. Its people are hospitable and helpful. I preferred the souks of Kairouan to all the others I visited in Tunisia - Sidi Bou Said, Tunis, Sousse. There was less pressure and more interest and kindness - although I found all Tunisians to be kind. I walked everywhere, although the city is quite large. I did not see everything by any means - the Great Mosque is a huge highlight of this stay. Breathtaking. We went on to visit El Jem, an hour's drive away.
